DENTAL MATERIAL.
MR T. K. SIDEY'S OFFER. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAU.) DTJNEDIN, April 6. At the annual dinner of the New Zealand Dental Association, -Mr Maurice Denniston, honorary secretary, stated that lie was satisfied that .the Prime Minister would keep his word in regard to the admission of unqualified men to the register, namely, that consideration only would be given to those men who, owing to war disability or other circumstances, had suffered hardship in connexion with the opportunity, to qualify by examination. In reply to a toast in which his services in connexion with the Dental School were specially mentioned, Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., said that, notwithstanding the legal difficulties in connexion with his offer of money for an endowment, ho intended before the new school was opened to hand over the sum of, £IOOO. Even if to provide this would not do very much in the way of scholarships, it would fill a deficiency in connexion with the treatment of the poorer class of patient, who was prepared to make use of gold and platinum and other precious metals, but could not afford to pay. He thought that, if special provision were made for this purpose, dental students would receive training in a new class of work. If a fund were provided to purchase platinum, gold, and. other precious metals, it would go a long way to make up the deficiency in the provision of clinical material.
