HAMPTON COURT GARDEN

PARTY

GUESTS FROxM OVERSEAS. (iROM OCH SrECUL correspo.vde.ytJ LONDON. July 29. One of .the al fresco events of the season groat'y enjoyed By visitors from the Dominions was the garden party given by his Britannic Majesty's Government in the Home Park of Hampton Court. It was an ideal day aDd an ideal site for a function of the kind, for the Palace of Cardinal Wolsey is full of historic interest, the grounds are beautifully laid out, and gay with flowers, fountains play and temper the heat of a very warm afternoon, and those who visit the noted vine can next set out to try and master the intricacies of the equally noted maze. Despite the continuance of week after week of dry weather, the lawns were brilliantly green, the flower beds and borders were masses of colour, and the dozens of tubs of flowering blue agapanthus set round the sparkling were the admiration of everyone on the opposite bank. The river beyond was very attractive with houseboats moored on the opposite bank, A great many of the public who were in the grounds found considerable interest in watching the arrival of the. guests, who numbered about thret. thousand.

For nearly two hours the Rt. Hon. L. S. Amery (Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs) and Mrs Amery, who acted as host and hostess, stood to receive the guests in the Park enclosure, where the band of the Grenadiers played throughout the afternoon. Many well-known people were present, the dresses of the ladies were almost without exception very pretty, while jewels and native apparel of the native Indian ladies, and the costumes ot some of the visitors from Eastern countries added considerably to the gaiety of the scene.
