Friday will be a fairly bus}' day for owners and trainers in several parts of the Dominion, for on that day nominations close for the Napier Park Racing Club's, Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's, and Dunedin Jookey Club's Spring Meetings, and acceptances are due for the Dannevirka Hunt Annual Meeting and the Dannovirke Racing, Ciub and Otaki Maori Racing Club's Spring Meetings. On tho same day forfeits are due for tlio Hawko's Bay Guineas. It is reported that Mr J. C. N. Grigg, who is at present in England, has purchased a 6tallion by Phalaris (sire of Manna) and a mare by Gainsborough and another by Desmond to strengthen tho Longbeach Stud. Messrs B. S. Irwin and "W. Quirk have been appointed members of the Dunedin District Committee

With the exception of the few brought out in the mornings, the two-year-olds at Riccarton are rather backward, consequent upon the long spell of unsettled weather.

G. J. Pine is working a very wellgrown colt for Mr G. Gerard, by Archery from that prolific mare .Peace, dam of numerous winners, including Valhalla, Ghakwana, The Hague, La Paix and Prosperity. This youngster may need time, and should be a handsome horse by the autumn. He will race as Crossbow. The Paper Money—Kilteel colt Paper Boy, in tho same stable, is low eefc and sturdy. He may bo fit to race sooner -than, lijs staUemata.

G. Mnrray-Aynsley has in work tho Paper Money filly Paperchaß©,. and a filly by Paladin—Mazabuka. Paperchase is from Stardancer, the dam. of Stariand, Limelight and Starmist. The four juveniles which, work with the Chokebore Lodge afternoon brigade include tho colt Sightseer, by Antagon- : ist—Telescope, the filly Front Rank, by Warplano—Discipline, the colt Hecord Trip, by The Ace—Sailor's Hope, and a filly by The Ace—Scottish Star. They are all from dams of winnors. Front Bank, half-sister to Dame Straitlace and three-quarter sister to Adjutant and Court Martial, is tho smallest of the quartot, but when produced at her beet might not bo the worst of them.

P. D. Jones's team includes Battle-

ment, brother to The Cypher and The Polymnian. Torque, sister to Martial Dawn ana Gauntlet, Bank Note fcy Paper Money—Equitas, and a gelding by Limond from Medley, the dam of BaUymena. These will be joined shortly by a gelding by Boniform from Majestikoff, at present in P. Christmas.'s care. They axe a very even lot, of which Bank Note is tho most forward. He is a very attractive youngster and moves aa. well aa he looks. J. McCombe is broaMnjr. a two-year-old by Tractor from a half-sister -to Afton Loch the dam of Sunny Loch.

The Polymnian is doing; useful work at Ricearton and so far there has not heen a return of the trouble which restricted his racing in previous seaeons. Roseday's three-year-old brother, trained by T. H. Gillett for Mr J.'S. Barrett, is to be given his first run in / publio at the Ashburton ,Meeting this month. He has grown considerably during the past few months, and may not, be at his best till later! in the Season.

During R. W. King\s absence in Australia, his three-year-old by Greyspear from Single Rose, is. being ■jrorkcd by J. Lindsay, at Ricearton. __ The. Clarenceux mare Heraldry has joined R. Longley's team. The English-bred filly. Celerity ,H., by Gainsborough—Force'of Gravity, is ono of the regulars, at Rkcarton. She is' inclined to bo plain in appearance but is a hardy sort. Her six starte aa a two-year-old in England last year were productive of two third placings A race at. Newmarket in which Celerity 11, finished third was won by Mum Ruffin, who as a three-year-old this season had won two races when the ]ast exchanges came to hand. The Gainsborough filly will carry the same colours as Glentruin and is in T. H Gillett's stable.

Nominations for tho Wellington T.C.'s Spring Meeting close on Friday at 8 p.m., with tho club's secretary, Mr E. W. Short, at Pctono. Owing to tho wet weather, verylittle work has been done at New Brighton sinco the Metropolitan T.C.'s August Meeting. A large number of horses are in training at the seaside course, but the majority are backward., H. Frost has nine horses in work— Talent, Harcwood, Pieter Timmerman, William tho Great, Princess Beta, Hillgrove, Kiribingi, Miss Dorothy, and a maiden trotter by Wildwood Junr.

Talent, who has not long been taken up, is looking in nice- condition to start, work. The f son of Calm -was a consistent performer last season, and as he thrives with racing, ho should perform as well, and may do better, this season. William the Great, a thrcc-yoar-old colt by Great Audubon, from Annie Dillon, is on tho improve. Ho is an attractivs pacer, and when moro seasoned - should prove a useful stake winner.' This youngster is bred on fie same lines as Groat Hope, but is larger in size. HiUgrove, by Great Audubon, and the Wildwood Junr. mare are promising maiden trotters, especially the former, who looks like coming to hand quickly. Miss Dorothy, a four-year-old marc by Calm, is being worked at the pacing gait, but at present she .is backward. Other members of H. Frost's team, in Pieter Timmerman, Harewood, Princess Rota, and Kiribingi, do not claim any immediate engagements, but being seasoned horses, do not require a lot of work to fit them for racing. N. C. Price is working Albert Logan and the Harold Dillon gelding My Sonny. Tho last-named is not too sound, and it is doubtful whether he will stand a splid preparation. Mr G. W. Deyell has cancelled the lease of Alto Chimes. The Australianbred gelding has left J. Bryce 's stable, and has rejoined N. C. Price's string at j New Brighton. In future Alto Chimes will race in the interest of his owner, Mr A. J. Lawrence. B. B. Berry is confining his attention to Whakataua, Royal Step and a promising four-year-old pacer by Harold Dillon. Whakataua is backward, and will * . not fulfil bis engagement at Timara. jWiY , A. G. Wilson is working The Thistle pfik'*t the pacing gait, ana the Nelson Bingdding is shaping really well. Iflyrjiwrtk Bingen, the three-year-old SS^^iS c 1 G ?** t - Bin ß* n > " f "t getting p$ condition, and is likely to ?.», next month, *

J. N. Clarke has a mired team of trotters and pacers in' commission. It includes Herbilwin, Marietta, Peter Bingen, Charlie Bingen, Auto, Ararawa, Waitarere, St. Fillan, and several maidens.

After a five months' spell, Auto has resumed work. He is carrying a lot of condition, and looks all the better for his holiday.

J. N. Clarke is educating a couple of ! two-year-olds by Logan Pointer, a colt ! from Arieda, and a filly from a Prince I Imperial mare. Both youngsters are I natural pacers, and appear to take kindly to the hopples. G. F. Robinson is keeping llaekthorne up to the collar, but the brother to Great Hope is not showing the improvement expected of him. Other members of his team, Ouimet, Copra, Tiny Moon, Harlev Dillon, and Lord Bingen, are doing'uscful exercise in view of spring meetings. , The brood marc Matariki. by Judge Bellman—Georgina, died recently after slipping a foal to Cathedral Chimes. She was foaled in 1902. The official times for the Wingatui Trotting Handicap at the Otago Hunt Club's Steeplechase Meeting were: Wild Flight 3m 42 4-ss, Coldwater 3m 27 3-ss, Black Baven 3m 42 3-ss. The aged pacing stallion Colenut has been sold and will shortly be shipped to Australia. TIMARU T.C. ACCEPTANCES FOR SPRING MEETING. WANGANUI TRAINING NOTES. (SPECIAL TO "TBT P3ESS.'') September 7. Although thß weather was fine' this morning for training operations, there was little fast work done. No. 2 and 3 tracks were open for galloping, but the majority of sprints took place on Xo. 3, which was faster than the other. Before breakfast Gold Light was sprinted half a mile, moving very freely all the way. She reeled off the first quarter in 24 3-3 a, and the four furlongs in 525. Gold Light is to he a runner in the Eclipse Stakes on Saturday, in which eho is likely to be a warm favourite, for she is well forward. Alaric was lent over half a mile, running the last two furlongs in 27 3-ss. The San Fran gelding will probably go on to Ayondale for the Cup after racing here this week. Father O'Flynn and Beacon Light were to have gone four furlonga also, but they Wero well past the peg when they jumped off. The pair finished together, regietering 26 3-5s for the last couple, of furlongs. Both horses look in nice order for their engagements here, although Father O'Flynn finished the stronger under a pull. After the breakfast interval Gaillard hopped off at the half-mile post on the No. 2 track, and cutting out the first quarter of a mile in 26 l-ss, ran ionr furlongs in 52 2-ss. A vol* and Sovena were companions in a threo furlong sprint, the former going better than her sister in 40b. Avola pulled up well, and has apparently Quite recovered from her experience at Failding, where it was alleged she had been doped prior to contesting the open sprint on Wednesday. An interesting gallop was witnessed on No. 2 track when Zircon and Imperial Spark ««t out to run * mile. Zircon, on tha outside, made the pace most of the way, hut there was very little between them at anv stage, and both did their task nicely. The (Cg&gqiufl afe foot of cart column.),

.first quarter was run in Q3 4-ss, the first half-mile in Jl l-3s, five iurlongs in lm i 1-53, six furlongs in lm IS i-ss, and the nule in lm 4Cs. It was a fine gallop on the holding track. The last seven furlongs occupied lm 335. Tinokaha went better than Kaitangi over a round of the schooling hurdles, both fernwe., with the former having more pace briween the fences. Santiago popped <,v e r a couple of . hurdles S.
