Mr Edward Pom ton, one of Rapiers pioneer settlers, died at the N P Hospital at the advanced age ot </- yeare. Born at St. Helens Lancashire, England, he came tQ New Zealwi his eldest son in the sailing shJu thersfield, and went on to Napier W the old Southern Cross. A few • _ afterwards he took Tip t„~ the clile, and was a farmer there f rest of his days. In England h been a personal friend of Mri\- J. don, later to become Prime Minis New Zealand. Mrs Pointon died in 1888.
