"A very strong effort is being made by the Wellington Harbour Board to influence overseas shipping companies to cut out Napier as a port of call," states the annual report of tho Napier Chamber of Commerce, "with a view of forcing the whole of the products of Hawke's Bay to Wellington to be handled and shipped at that port." Although many arguments are put forwards by tho Wellington Board in support of its objective, it is felt in Napier that such a course, if adopted, would have a disastrous effect upon th© development of the Hawke's Bay district, which stands, fourth int tho Dominion'in value o£ exports. The report adds: "If persisted in, the Chamber is determined to call together the combined forces of all public bodies and othe r organisations in the province to combat and defeat the movement."
