'Messrs F. Knights. J.P.. and F. G. Norton, •T.p.. presided at. the Magistrate's Court-on Saturday. A first offender for ; drunkenness, who did not. appear, was fined 10s. the amount of his baiL Another first offender was fined "is. -Tack Smith, a seaman, -was charged -with having assaulted Walter Harper, barman of the, Albion Hotel, by striking him on the fa<_'«\ and, further, with having assaulted Constable S. "W. Mcßtirnie by striking him in a similar manner. He pleader! guilty to both charges, but stated that ho struck' Harper under provocation. Serjeant ,T. VVMeHnlm said that on Fri day afternoon Smith went into the Albion Hotel for a drink. Accused had "previously made trouble it. 'the bar, and the barman therefore refused to serve him. He then struck the barman. While being locked up he. suddenly struck Constable Mcßurnie.. r l he ■ accused stated that on the occasion on which there was trouble previously he had gone into the hotel and put' down 'the money for a drink. The. barman refused to serve him. '1 n» accused .was fined .ill on each cliarge. in default fourteen days' imprisonment, the terms to be cumulative. . . Swimming Club.S&nce. The Corsair Bay Swimming Club held a dance in the Kxcelsior Hall on rSaturdaynight. There was a good, a tendance, and music, vras supplied by Mr Phil Austin's orchestra. The fortnightly euchre tournament of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Brigade's social room, on Saturday night. The prizes .were awarded as follows: Ladies. Mrs .1. Austad 1. Mrs Sufliyan consolation: gentlemen, Mr J. Huston 1, Mr K. Stinson consolation. Harbour Light Theatre. There was a crowded • house at the Harbour Light Theatre on Saturday night when "Playing With Souls," a First National drama* starring Mary Astor, was screened, together with a comedy, gazette', and scenic. The Lupton's, entertainers provided a moat acceptable half hour of songs and instrumental 'items, some of the latter being distinctly , novel. .They,. bad to. respond 1,0 several recalls. The picture portion of the programme.will be repeated to-night. • To-morrow, "The Man Neit Door" featuring Alice Calbotrn, will be shown. The supporting program ma includes a comedy and the first episode ot the new serial, "The Iron Man."
