TIMARU. Social and Personal. Miss Sadie Scales, who was the guest, of Mrs G. F. Wood (Wai-iti road;, returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Mrs Hamilton Eimslie (Geraldinc) spent the week-cud with Mrs v E. E. Harper (Wai-iti road). Miss reggv Palmer intends to leave for England shortly. Mrs E. J. Mirams (Beverley road) loft for ('hristrhure.il on Friday. Miss F. Byrne r Wai-iti road) has returned from Wellington. Mr and Mrs A. 'Macfnrlanc (Ohrisfrhtirch) are spending a few days iu Timaru. Mrs Frank Smith (Waratah, Albury) left, on >Saturday for a lioliday in the North lsht'nl. Miss Mnya iaj'lor ('Woodlands road) is the guest of Mrs. W. X. Trice (Waihaorunga Mr and Mrs George Trott. and Miss Trott. fSraley street; left 011 Thursdav for Australia. Bi s ter V. M. Trott (Hanmer Springs) joined them iu Christchurch. Among flm visitors to Timaru at, present. are: Mrs Piuekney (Waikaia), Mr and Mrs C. P. Gaulter and familv (Rlenhejm), and Mr Mrs F. K. Jones (Christchtirch).
WAIMATE. A Chamber of Commerce lias been formed, and the following officers were elected:—President, Mr ,S. I. Fitch; vice-president, Mr C. Morton; committee, Messrs S. Grut, W. G. Paul, J. B Robinson. F. T. Wallace, W. F. Morrison. A. MeLauehlan, E. C. Rawiisley, C. E. Clarke, and T. S. Mitchell. The following sub-committees were appointed:—Publicity Committee, Messrs C. Morton, f>. Dash, T. S. Mitchell, C. Clarke, TV. F. Morrison; membership committee, Messrs 8. I. Fitch, F. T, Wallace, 8. Grut; Suggestion Committee, Messrs A. MrLauchlan, E. C. Rawiisley, J. B. Robinson, and W. G. Paul.
GERALDINE. Tlio annual meeting of the Geraldin* Co-operativo Dairy Company was well attended, Mr S. Gale being in the chair. Mr Gregg, the business agent for tho Railway Department, was present and said that tho Railway Department had contracted with Mr Gudsell to cart produce, etc., between Orari and Geraldine at* 6s per ton. The Department had made a cheap rate of 10s a ton for railage from Orari to Timaru, and they guaranteed to carry the produce in cloan, insulated waggons audits handle it quickly. The i y ato of carta go from tho factory Would work out at 7s, and the contractor would cart out coal at Bs. Ono shareholder said the factory was nearer Orari than the centre of Geraldine and yet they were to be charged, highw than Geraldine. Somo discussion and the chairman said that the question of cartage wduld be for tho incoming directors to arrange. Mr Gregg was thanked for attending tho meeting and supplying information.
. The seventh annual report to tho shareholders stated that 2.7101b of cheese was made from each pound of butter-fat. From tho profits it was proposed to pay a dividend of 5 per cent, and a bonus of 5 per cent, on paid-up capital, and to carry forward a small balance. Tho audited balancesheet was also presented. Tho auditor's lopori stated that the books wero in very good order; he was pleased to see that the sharo capital had been increased -and that they were decreasing their liability at the bank, while the debit Vas not unsatisfactory considering their assets. Tho question of supply was a vital one.
The report showed that the supply of milk had falktti and the shareholders would hare to consider this—they only required the co-operation of shareholders and suppliers to make the company a real success. Mr J. 13. Stewart said the company was making headway. and he congratulated them on doing so.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the following directors were elected .-—Messrs C. P. Turner B Le Frantz, Herlihy, G. Gale and Kain. Mr 11. Frascr ivas re-elected auditor. The opening of the season was left to the directors to fix. At a subsequent meeting of the directors, Mr IS. Gale was re-elected chairman.
TEMUKA. At St. Peter's Church, Temuka, on Friday evening, the induction of the Rev. G-. N. Watson to the combined parish of Temuka and Winchester took place. The Rev. H. Purchas, of Geraldine, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Mr McPharson, of Pleasant Point. A large congregation assembled to witness the coromony, which was impressively conducted. In his address to the peoplp, the Roy. Mr Purchas said it was only those who experienced it who could understand the difficulties of those in the Christian ministry Newly ordained men mado high ideals, but in many cases the people were slow to respond, and the clergy became discouraged and later lost hope. The cure was a large one, and he appealed to the congregation to assist the new vicar, by means of prayer, courtesy, Kindness, and social service. Ho exhorted the now vicar never to be sidetracked from the real mission of the Church.

Mr L Talbot, vicar's warden, welcomed the new vicar on behalf of the parishioners in the outlying districts, the Maoris and the young people. place of the usual Beats. _ Musical items were given by Misses Stella Goodman (musical monologue), Ivy Ives (soprano solo), and E. Taylor (pianoforte solo). Miss Phyllis Waroing and Mr A. Ives gained the first prizes for the best hard-np dresses, and Miss M. Moses and Mr Graham Smith were the winners of the waltzing competition. A pleasant little function took place at the Temuka Bowling Green on Saturday morning, when a tion was made the members of tho club to Mr Fred Morris, who is retiring from the position of assistant caretaker of the Domain. Mr !)• "White, secretary of the club, read the apologies from the president Mr J. B. ' Sinclair; the Mayor, Mr G. B. Cartwright, and manv members or tho club who were unable to be present. On behalf of the members of tho club, Mr D. Ferguson handed Mr Morris a sum of money, with which to -purchase some article he may require, and on behalf of the club he handed Mr Morris a cheque. Mr D. Mclnnes also spoke of the splendid work done by Mr Morris. Mr Morris thanked the members for their gifts.
