FOOTBALL.
RUGBY. CANTERBURY V. OTAGO. There should be another record crowd at Lancaster Park to-day to witcesß the great game on the Oval between the stalwarts of Otago and Canterbury. Right from the time football was started in .these two provinces there has been great rivalry between these two provinces, and to-day's game will add another match to the series of struggles between the two. fifteens. It 1b diliicult to say which side will carry off the honours to-day, as all indications point to a very even game. However, since both sides are fielding good teams, there should be no lack of excitement, and the game should bo both fast and spectacular. Before the big game, the junior fifteens of the two provinces will try conclusions. This match itßelf will be full of interest.
J. H. Hajris and J. T. Burrow® have notified the selectors that they will not be available for to-day's match against Otago. Their places will accoiding:y bo taken by D. Fairbrotker, of North Canterbury, and W. Melvin, of £he Christchurcli Club. D. Pairbrother has notified the selectors that he will be unable to play and ho will bo replaced by D. Nixon. D. TAGO TEAM. *'YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED." (special to "the press.") DUNEDIIO" September 4. The Ot&ga Rugby tesftn which left this mofning on its northern tour is a young and inexperienced eide. Such players as Murray, Robinson, Wis£+ St. George, Walker, and Morgan will be missed' in the backe, but the forwards will suffer most through McMeeking, Sonntag, Dickson, and Williams not being available. The team's prospects on the tour do not look bright. Tho outstanding backs will be Stevenson (full-back), Webb (wing-three-quarter), and Townsend (five-eighths). Tho forwards will have a hard time against their opponents. Throe country players ore included in the team.
LEAGUE, MARISTS Y. ADDINGTON. There should be a sparkling display of football at Monica Park to-day, when Marists, champions of Canterbury, will try conclusions with Addingtcn, a team noted for its fast and brilliant football. This game will mark the final of the competition, and as both teams are at the top of their form a fine display should be tho result. Both teams play the fast, open type of football beloved by keen enthusiasts, and as the ground should be in good order this game should produce something well above the average, la Robins, Marists have the best back the club has produced since D. McCormack was at his best, and with O'Malley and Fitzgerald there is a first-class combination. Addington v.i 11 be strengthened by the inclusion of Green, a New Zealand representative, and ha should keep the Marists' backs very busy. There will be a frequent tram service to the grounds, and for those who arrive early a good curtain-raiser will bo provided.

Witii but one match lost during the season's 'competition engagements, Sonnyside «nd Nomada have each eoored more than twice as many championship pouts as their ceareet opponents. Both tho Institute Wtt| and Nomeda hare been represented by the originally eeleoted team right throughout tho season, and herein liee the secret of tleir successful combination.
