MORE HOPEFUL OUTLOOK.

INTERVENTION OF STATE

GOVERNMENT.

(by CABLE—MESS associatioh —coftright) (aUSTHALIA.N" AXD X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATIOK.)

SYDNEY, July 4.

In consequence of the intervention, of tho State Government, the feeling i ll Ministerial and industrial circles is that the shipping dispute will be settled at an early date. For a week past, leading trade unionists have been in daily conference with prominent members of the Cabinet. It is understood tlfot certain influential shipping owners have also been approached on behalf of tho Government.

Troublo is expected in getting the Bombala away from Brisbane, as seven members of the crew have given notice of their intention to leave tho vessel there. Four others have been dismissed for various reasons.

It is stated that the reason the crew of the Zealandia have given notice is that six men, whoso home ports are Adelaide and Fremantle, intended to give notice on arrival at those ports. Tho Sydney seamen decided not to sail in the Zealandia, in view of tho possibility of tho steamer being laid up at either Adelaide or Fremantle through shortage of men. STATE PREMIER OPTIMISTIC. EXPECTS EARLY SETTLEMENT. (AUSTRALIAN AND X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATIOK.) (Received July sth, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 4. Mr Lang, Premier of New South Wales, after further .interviews with. Union representatives, stated that he hoped for a satisfactory issue next week. In the meantime, the owners were marking time, awaiting the outcome of a meeting of Unions on Monday.

Tho Zealandia is 6till idle. The ship lias been tied up and the passengers' fares refunded.

The steamer Bombala is hold up at Brisbane through several members of tho crew giving notice, ijmd efforts to secure substitutes are proving fruitless.
