Burglars entered the store of Mr I). P. George, 507 a Barbndoes street, on Thursday night, and stole a large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes besides a good sum of money in silver. They gained entrance to the premises by forcing the door.

Our Nelson correspondent telegraphs : —The Principal of Nelson College has received from Mr H. A. Bodtlington, of Ashburton, a photograph of a medal presented to the writer's brother, Mr E. Boddington, for a most remarkable performance accomplished in Nelson in the 'seventies. The medal bears an inscription stating that it was presented to E. Boddington for his feat in taking seven wickets with successive balls in a, match for College versus Star in 1877-78. The editor of the ''College Magazine" is anxious to make reference to •the matter in the next issue, but so far all efforts to trace the match in local newspaper files have failed. Players of that time still resident in New Zealand are asked to give any further information on the subject. Acting on the advice of the Minister of Internal Affairs, that tho Government had no intention of interfering with the style of number plates in general use, an Aucklandcr, who is petitioning Parliament for redress, states that he invested his life's savings, together with £'soo capital, in tho purchase of patent rights, which have about 13 years to run, a .nd the development of a number-plate- manufacturing concern. The petitioner states that ho was successful in his venture, but that the Operation of tho Motor Vehicles Act and the enforcement of tho use of the new American nuinber-plato has ruined his business, and left him without a means of livelihood. Ho asks for compensation and a compassionate allowance by way of redress, and further compensation for mental anxiety caused to him.
