RAILWAY TRANSPORT.

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS. (BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIA* AND S.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, July 2. The history of railway traction was epitomised in a remarkable centenary pageant this afternoon on the old Stockton-Darlington line, in which Stephenson's old colliery "Puffing Billy," constructed in 1822, led the pioeession of six miles length, followed immediately, and in striking contrast, by the most modern "Flying Scotsman" locomotive. The most popular feature was the first passenger engine called "Locomotion Number One," in which the driver wore a coloured tail-coat and a twofoot top hat, as was the custom when the engine was commissioned in 182.0. The Duke cf York unveiled a tablet commemorating the booking by the first passenger in 1525.
