MEETING OP DISTRICT COUNCIL. The Canterbury District Council cf \ the Workers' Educational Association met on Thursday evening. In the absence of the president, Mr H. D. Acla-nd, the chair was taken by Mr A. H- Shrubshall, and there were also present—Messrs R. M. Laing, Fi, Carritt, W. Anderson, G. Lawn, 3?. Robson, J. Woods, O. R. N. Mackie, S. King, and W. H. Moses, and Miss Robinson, and the secretary (Mr Geo. Maiming). A report on the activities of -the Council, submitted by the secretary, dealt with, the public lectures delivered since the previous meeting, and to the social evenings held. It stated that the members of the Rambling Ciub started their tramps on June 20th, when, a visit was paid to "Dover Castle," overlooking Heatbcote Valley. Mr R. M. Laing conducted the party, which, consisted of 25 students, and, on arrival at their destination, he had given a short' talk on the formation of the rocks in the vicinity, and the peculiar botanical specimens to be found there. The next ramble would) take place da July 4th, to the Rapaki road. The Finance Committee had begun their appeal for honorary annual members. Since April 20th a tqtal of £3O 10s had been received, ten trades unions contributing JC2S amongst them The report was The report of the proceedings at the meeting of the Dominion Council, held in Christchurch on June 10th, was submitted and was adopted. It' was decided to hold over discussion of the Dominion, constitution' till next meeting. An interesting disouasion took place on the question of giving evidence before the University Commission- ivhen it eits in Christchurch, and it was decided that the president and tho secretary should arrange to give auch evidence ae they think necessary on behalf of tha W.E.A. movement.
