Apologies wcro received from Messrs Norman Campbeii. Norton Francis, and the Mayor (Mr J. lv. Archer); tha Ashb'urton Committee ;.polo, iised tor being unable to send a representative. The chairman referred to the necessity for the careful allocation of space .so that all interests would be dealt with fairly so that there would ho no heaitburuings or discontent on the part of any section of the community. This was necessary in view of the fact that the money for tho-provincial court was Uing provided by tho public generally. Or the 50G0 square feet of space proposed to bo applied for the necessary avenues would absorb about onefit'tii. lcaviiur 4000 square fcefc for exhibits, lie had asked Mr A. Macpherson, who had been connected with the New Zealand exhibit at the Pacific Panama Exhibition', to be present to give vhem nny assistance in his power. Reports from the different sectional committees were then taken.

Grain and Seeds. Mr Hall reported on the steps taken by the Grain, Seeds and Flour Committee in the matter of arranging for exhibits and stated that there was very little doubt that quite enough grain and seeds exhibits would bo forthcoming: there was some doubt about sheaves, though oat sheaves were obtainable. The space required -was estimated at 000 square feet. Replying to tho chairman, Mr Hall said Hint the committee had not taken iyto consideration, in estimating the space required, exhibits of flour and: oatmeal. Mr Mac-.hin said that tho Timaru people wished to collaborate in making an exhibit of flour.

On the chairman's suggestion it was a freed that the first products: of all cereals should be included in the scope of the committee. Wool. The secretary reported that .Mr W. IF. Nicholson, before he left for Sydney, told him that there would bo no difficulty in collecting n good exhibit of fleeces: the members of the Sheepowners' Union were taking the matter up. Mr Machin said the General Committee had agreed that individual fleeces should have on a neat label bearing the name of the grower. . It was agreed that in addition to fleeces tho exhibit should include examples of wool in- its various- stages before the process of carding: and that the committee should consider exhibiting examples of the wool sorters' art. The space for the exhibit was estimated at 250 square feet. The name of Mr T. R. Lcithcad was added to. the committee.

Educational and Historical. Mr Machin, on behalf of Professor Speight, said that it was suggested that Mr K. R. Webb, of Canterbury College, should be added to the committee. Enquiries were being made regarding historical exhibits available at Canterbury College and Christ's College. As to the education exhibits, it was suggested that they should bo such as would point to Canterbury as an educational centre. Regarding the art section, the chairman suggested that it should be included with the historical and educational section. It was stated that there was no likelihood of any valuable pictures being available for the. Canterbury Court, as the building would not be fireproof. Some discussion took place-as to a special Canterbury art section-in the general art section, but it was' considered that this was not advisable. No action was taken pending a report from the Art Committee. Forestry and Horticulture. It was decided to allocate tentatively 100 square feet for the forestry and horticulture section. ; Messrs A. H. • Shrubshall and R. Nairn wero added to the committee. Fruit and Honey. * For this section 150 feet was tentatively allocated. Mr Freeman, on behalf of the Fruitgrowers'' Association, undertook to give what assistance was possible. Canterbury Lamb. In committee, Mr Machin reported on the proposed frozen meat exhibit, and Mr Agar reported on the dairy produce exhibit. On resuming, it was reported that it had been decided that Canterbury 1-r.m'o should bo adequately exhibited: also that butter and cheese should have adequate representation. Acclimatisation and Scenic. There was no report from this committee. It was decided to add the name? of Messrs M. Tisdall,"J. Forbes, and H. J. Knight to the committee. It was decided to. ask the committees which, had not reported to, do so as soon as possible. Secondary. Industries in Canterbury Court. Mr Machin brought down th? recommendation of :the Provincial Committee that motor bodies should 0c exhibited in the Canterbury Provincial Court. The chairman considered that the exhibit of any secondary industries in the Provincial Court would be unfair, as.the funds were being provided by the local bodies. It would be unfair for one class of manufacturers to exhibit free while others would have t<» .pay for space in the Industries Court.

Mr Machin said that it' there wore objections to secondary industries, l.'f.iug exhibited in the Canterbury Court, they should be argued out with the i'roviucial Committee.

Mr Marriuer suggested that only .those itiairufacturers who were exhibiting in the Industries Court should bo allowed to exhibit in the Canterbury Court. Ho moved in the direction of allowing secondary industries to be exhibited in the Provincial Court under tho condition mentioned. Mr Mulcock seconded pro forma. There was considerable discussion on the jnatter, and ultimately Mr Marriuer withdrew his motion in favour of one proposed by Mr Holford, which. Mr Marriner seconded, and which was agreed to in the following terms: — "That a Secondary Industries -Bar be provided in the Canterbury Provincial Court, the Canterbury Industrial Association to be asked to co-operate in arranging same.'' It was decided that 700 square feet should be allocated tentatively, for tue bay.

in reply to the chairman, Mr Hart? said that the Christchurch. Branch of the Institute of Architects would submit a proposed plan of the Canterbury Court as soon as possible. A meeting of the Finance Committee was then held, Mr A. McKellar presiding. Arrangements were made for deputations to wait on several County Councils in connexion with their grants ta th.e funds.
