As expected, tho entry in this department, owing to tho inclement weather, was x very small one. comprising approximately 1500 sheep all told, for the most part small hoggets and old gummy ewes in lamb. Taking into consideration tho fttturo prospects for wool nnd lambs, also the present climatic conditions, which seem to bo against the farmer, the sale must bo considered an excellent one. Prices were just as good as ever, ewe hoggets making from 26s to 28s 3d, mixed sex hoggets from 19s 6d to 24s 7d, aged owes lu good condition as ns 24s 9d. A pen of sound mouth ewes in poor condition made 24s 3d, and the only wethers in tho market, a lino of 2, 4 and 0tooth in backward condition, made 29s lid. FOR BEST RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO H. MATSON & CO., ADDINGTON. FAT LAMBS. Tho total entry of 150 lambs rcpn merely the odds and ends from van»ns farmers, in fact in most cases small lots that camo to make up truck loads of fat ehcep, nnd tho quality was anything but good. Prices wore up to schedule rates, and for medium lambs wore from 25s to 30s; ona pen of extra heavy weights made up to 38s. FOR BEST RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO 11. MATSON & CO., ADDINGTON. FAT SHEEP. Thero was a comparatively small yarding, again comprising mostly ewes, although, there were several consignments of both wethers and ewes of extra quality. There were scarcely sufficient for butchers' requirements, and combined with the fact that West Coast and local country butchers were in. tho market for supplies, the market, in our opinion, was a good deal firmer than, last week's sale, we should say on an overage of Is Gd to 2s a head rise, and this improvement was more apparent in the better class of sheep. ■ Exporters were only | able to operate sparingly, so this gives some indication that tho market was considerably firmer. It looks to us as though from now on the mutton market is going to harden and no doubt we will have to depend to a great extent. oil outside supplies to keep our market going. The total yarding of fat sheep to-day, we would Bay, was a*out 4000, of which H. Matson and Co.'s entry was CIS. Our principnl sales were as follows: A/c T. B. GARRIOK, Pleasant Point; "Wethers to 46s lOd; Ewes to 42s 3d. A/c J. J. KARL, Orarii ' Wethers to 45s Id. ' A/c F. M. YOUNG. Winchester: / Ewes to 37s lOd. • A/c Client: ; Wethers to 46s lOd. 1 FAT CATTLE. . There was a total entry of 4:!3 head, and H Matson and Co.'s shaTe was Bs>. This was a comparatively small yarding, and irisht throughout tho sale thero was keen competition and a tendency for the market to harden. Thero was no doubt about it, the sale was a top-notcher, and tho quality forward was excellent, there being race after •race of prime steers. Cow beef was not so plentiful, but the cows that were yarded were of excellent quality, and butchers competed keenly. We. quote the following • Extra heavy steers sold from £2l. to £23 Prime steers, £lB to £2O 10s. Medium steers, £ls 10s to £l7. Light steers, £l2 10s to £l3 15s Extra heavy heifers sold from £l2 to £id 10s. . Prime, £8 to £lO 10s. Modium, £6 to £7 ss. Light, £4 108 to £5 ss. Extra heavy cow beef, £l6 10s to £ll $s 6d. Prime, £7 15s to £lO. Medium, £5 5s to £6 10s. Light, £3 to £4 10s. FOft BEST RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO 11. MATSON AND 00., ADDINGTON. CALVES. Again in this department tho small entry of 110 head made the prices better than they had been for some time. Matson and Co. handled 35 of tho entry. A big percentage of tho yarding comprised large Tough sorts, and although they were selling better .than they have previously been, they are not what the butchers require. Any young small calves in good condition were exceptionally dear in comparison with late sales. We quote: Large runners to £7 10s. ; Best calves from £3 5s to £4. Good calves from 50s to £3. Medium from 85s to £2 ss. Small calves from £1 to 30s. 'FOR BEST RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO H. MATSON AND CO., ADDINGTON, STORE CATTLE. Tho sale throughout was on a par with last week's rates, and although sales were-.hard to make owing to tho poor quality which came forward, practically every lot in this department was offered singly with tho exception of a line of 15 cows, which made £3 7s 6d, and these were in backward condition. Prices .were: Best cows, £2 5s fo £3. Medium, 30s to £2. Inferior, £1 to 27s Cd. There were no steers yarded, and bulls realised from £3 to £5, according to weight.
