Mankind is speedily approaching the stage when life will be sustained mentally rather than by physical power, writes Professor Low (Emeritus Professor ci Civil and Mechanical Engineering in the University of London) in his new book entitled "The Future." • Man will ultimately, he says, he unable to bear the slightest hardship. He will bo forced to remain in dwellings, oniy venturing into the open alter special precautions. The normal day will include such horrors as radio alarm-clocks, synthetic felt one-piece suits, a hat which will always he worn because men will be hairless, and loud-speakers giving the news at the breakfast table, with television glimpses of events. Human beings will always, travel in closed motor-cars ajid shopping will be made- effortless by means of moving pavements and stairways. Communications will be by personal radio, with a metal aerial in the headgear, involving talking through the hat.
Food will be prepared in communal kitchens.
