Acceptances for the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting, and entries for tho Trial Plate, close to-day at 9 p.m. Nominations for the South Canterbury llunt Club's Annual Meeting close to-day at 9 p.m. The annual meeting of members of flic New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will be held at S o'clock this evening. Gloaming's name appears in the list of entrants for the Twenty-Ninth Caulfield Futurity Stakes, to be run next February. After an enforced spell of over twelve months, the Martian—Rose Red gelding Zouave lias resumed work at Tauhe'renikau. T. F. Quinlivau is of opinion that he has located Master Peter's ailment, and is hopeful of him taking his place in the Grand National Steeplechase field. The turfing of the area in front of the totalisator at Trcntham has been completed. This part of the enclosure will he boarded over at the coming meeting. Cherry Ripe, who was shipped to Sydney last week, will be trained by Prank McGralh at Kandwick, for his owner, Dr. Murphy.
The total number of nominations received for the Avondalc All Aged Stakes is given as. 180, which must .be somewhere in the region of a rcco'-d for a race in New Zealand.
A Press Association telegram from Wellington says that .Serenade has been scratched for all engagements at the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting. Killocra, Rowley, and Strategy will come on to Eiecarton for the Grand National, soon after the conclusion of the Wellington Winter Meeting next week. Nothing galloped better on the track flt Trcntham on Saturday than Tinohari. : This mare from J. Ayres's stable goes really well in soft going, and she should be kept in mind for the coming meeting. Tho Absurd—Ayah three-year-old Inferno is mentioned as likely to tackle a spring campaign in Australia. Should the project bo undertaken, F. Tilley mako take cither Boiihonimo or Glculoss with him as well.
Tho Riverton Racing Club's extra meeting held in May resulted in a profit of £2ll after making provision for tho fixture's sharo of expenses of tho season. The result is highly satisfactory, consideripg that there was no support from owners outside Southland. Set Sail, who has been one of tbe most : successful Southland-bred three year-olds over raced, has been sent to her owner's farm at Waimahaka for a spell. . Should this filly improve with age she will be able to take her place with the best next season.
The date of the hearing of H. Gray's appeal to tho New Zealand Racing Conference against-his disqualification for life by the Canterbury District Committe'o has not yet been definitely fixed, but it will probably be on Thursday evening, July 9th, in" "Wellington. ' An Auckland writer says:—The formationof a syndicate for tho purpose of taking over the old racecourse at Glcnora Park, with the object of pro viding training facilities on tho property has, I understand, been completed, and, further, that an early commencement will be made in laying down the necessary tracks.
At a recent meeting in India a native owncrrtrainer, 11. Kambattia, noticed that not a single ticket had been taken out on-one of his horses in. a certain race, so he invested ten rupees on the animal's chance. The horse won easily in a field of twenty-four, and the return on the investment was 17,100 rupees (£1140).
Carawock, ridden by P. Mcßrearfcy, was schooled over four flights of hurdles in company with Lady Gay at Trcntham on -Saturday morning.
