to- ins eriTos or "ths rasas." Bir, —The Licensing Reform Association has addressed a letter to all members of Parliament requesting them to support the introduction of a Licensing Bill based on the report of the Parliamentary Licensing Committee. That report, which was the product of a committeo packed by a majority known to be in favour of the liquor trade, proposes to give the quietus for' what is practically an indefinite period to the right now, possessed by the people to vote on the liquor question. In view of. rl sueh attempts at retrograde legislation,' most glaringly undemocratic,"'' ■ the New Zealand Alliance has requested those, electors who believe in its policy to give the preference, all things considered, to candidates who will support its in Parliament. In this entirely reasonable and common-sense proposition your correspondent"M" scents a lurking danger, the danger of such a reversal of policy on the part of the New Zealand Alliance as would lead to the 'substitution of Prohibition by direct legislation instead of Prohibition by the will of the. people. That is to say, the Alliance would commit itself to a change of policy which would wipe its fundamental principle out of existence. Your correspondent "M" is simply out to. damage & cause he does not believe in, by raising an issue that is entirely' false.— Yours, etc, i "W. J. WILLIAMS. June 30th, 1925.
