A Rome cable says: The "Tribuna" states that the Pope, after a consultation with the Bishops attending Holy year,.has decided.to hold a (Ecumenical conference in 1928. In tlio House of Commons, Sir Harry Brittain said the reduction in the Press cable rates to Australia had been postponed. . Mr Cosgrave (President of the^ Irish. Free State), in a'speech at Knniseorthy, told"the Ulster people that the Free State did not want union with them one mor/th sooner than the people of Northern Ireland wanted it. They did not want a false union, which ultimately would moan a divorce. A London cable says Eric Liddell, Olympic record breaker, had a stirring send-off. on leaving Edinburgh toworK in the missionary field in China. Undergraduates of Edinburgh University drew his carriage to Waverley Staiion, where Liddell led the. crowd in singing the hymn "Jesus Shall Reign." A Sydney message says the coal-own-ers and minors commenced to discuss the miners' claims for a minimum wage of £5 10s weekly and seven-hour day. The proceedings were held in camera.
