BURIED CITY FOUND.
VAST PREHISTORIC RUINS. LIGHT OX MAYA MYSTERY. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (ACSTBALIAX AND X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received Juno 30th, 11.35 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, June 20. Engineers, headed by Pedro Cafarcii, discovered an immenso prc-histonc city near Orizaba (Vera Cruz) covering several miles. It has four pyramids, more than 100 underground chambers, and a multitude of buried houses and vast terraces.
Sculptured tablets were found similar to those found near Mexico City. They bear resemblances to thoso of Yucatan and give importanco to tho discovery. The ruins are so vast that it will take years to excavate them. Tho city flourished beforo tho civilisation in Yucatan, and may furnish a key to tho origin of the ancient mysterious Maya race which now occupies the attention of tho Carnegio Institute. Reports indieato that tho city ivas possibly early Maya.
