The inquest oa Joshua Henry Noblett, the iircman, who was killed in a collision between a firo engine and a motor-car on the night of June loth, was concluded yesterday. Page C. (California) was laid in ruins by an carthquako which was followed by fire and flood. Twelve wero killed and 300 injured. Steamer Afire. The Australian inter-State steamer Canberra took tiro while lying at a Sydney wharf. The passengers were rescued with difficulty, and one steward succumbed to the flames. Chinese Strikes. Peking reports state that the strike and boycott continue. There has been a further exchange of protests. Unemployment. After a lengthy debato the House of Commons rejected a Labour censure motion in connexion with unemployment. Soviet's Arctic Plans. Tho Soviet Government is planning an air expedition to tho Kussiau Arctic.
