Mrs T. C. Robinson (Mt. Palm) is visiting Mrs Leonard Wilson (Papanui road).
Mrs C. L. Hart (Rugby street) leaves for Auckland to-night to visit her parents. Mr and.Mrs Leonard Clark returned from Wellington at the week-end, after seeing off their eldest sou by the Rotorua. He is entering Magdalen College, Oxford, in October. Miss Joan Reid (Oamaru), who has been spending a few days with Mrs McMaster (Pigeon Bay) has returned to Christchurch.
Mr and Mrs Malcolm Moss (San Francisco) and Mr and Mrs C Maitland (Timaru) are stayiqg afc the United Service Hotel.
There is at present being, shown in one of the windows of Petersen\s, Ltd., in High street, a silver-mounted oaJc shield made by that firm to the order of Mr and Mrs T. C. Robinson, of Mount Palm. The shield is of Jacobean oak, with a silver Ehield in the centre, surrounded by 14 smaller shields. On the centre one is engraved: ' 'Mount Palm Challenge Shield, presented by Mr and Mrs T. O. Robinson, to be competed for by the girls' hockey clubs from Clarence to v Waipara." ' The weekly meeting of the School of Religious Education was held • last nisht in the Y.M.C.A. Miss E. A. Elliot gave an interesting lecture on "How to Teach the Life of Christ to Juniors," illustrating her talk with pictures and sketches. The devotional part of the evening was conducted by Mr Bate, of the Y.M.C.A.
Miss C. E. Sarjeant was the guest of members of the Y.M.C.A. Orchestra at a happy little gathering on Saturday night. The purpose was to present her with a leather attache ease, in appreciation of her excellent services as pianiste of the orchestra during the past two years. Mr D. D. Leckie, honorary organiser, presided, and Mr R. A. Kenner, general secretary, made the presentation. Several of the members expressed' regret that it had become necessary for Miss Sarjeant to retire; They expressed keen appreciation of her work and paid tributes to ' her personality. Miss Sarjeant ably responded, and said that she hoped to be a constant visitor at the practices and social gatherings of the orchestra. Euchre players will have an opportunity of contesting for valuable prizes at the Caledonian Hall to'-morrow evening, when a large euchre party will be held by the Excelsior Euchre Assembly.
Miss Millicent Jennings and her Choral Singers visited the Middle Sanatorium last Saturday night and gave an entertainment, which was much enjoyed. Cars were supplied by the C.A.A. and Mr Broadbelt.
A special euchre tournament will be held in St. Michael's Hall, Durham street, to-morrow night. The prize list includes two £5 orders—one for ladies and one for gentlemen. Also two ladies' wristlet watches, two gentlemen's watches, hall stand, lady's hand-bag, and teaspoons.
To-night a carnival dance will be held at the Grand Tea Booms. Waltzing and fox trot competitions will take place during the evening. The music will be supplied by the Eosina Band.
A surprise party visited the residence of Mr and Mrs H. White, Bryndwr, on Saturday evening. A very happy time was spent in games, dancing, and music, the competition being won by Miss G. Bateman. The motor euchre tourney, for a threeseatcr colonial body Ford car, will commence to-night at the Caledonian Hall by the Christchurch Euchre Assembly. The prize offered will be even a more tempting trophy than the last car given by this Assembly., The conditions of this tournament are very liberal. Twenty good prizes will be given each night, and the twenty prize winners of each night will compete in the final for the motor-car. To encourage those who attend consistently the twenty highest aggregate scorers over the whole series will also participate in the final,, in addition to the twenty prize winners of each night. Every competitor thus has two chances of being in the final as well as winning a prize each evening. To-night's tourney will commence at 8 o'clock. S. MARGARET'S "OLD GIRLS' " DANCE.
The wintry conditions prevailing did not in any way detract from the gaiety of the dance held in "Dixieland" last night, and the Dance Committee of S. Margaret's College Old Girls' Association (Mrs C. H. Clemens, Misses N. Hunt, M. Saunders, W. Rosendale, P. Jaggar, N. Nutt, G. Jones, I. Pinckney, A. Cracroft Wilson, and L; Saunders), are to be congratulated on the great success achieved.
_ The ballroom, with its softly-shaded lights, its palms, and its gaily-coloured balloons, made a delightful setting for the pretty frocks of the -dancers, for whose pleasure the committee worked so zealously.
The chaperons were Mrs J. A. SWait, who wore' a handsome gown ol black radium lace over satin; and, Mrs E.G. Hogg, wlio wore black souple satin with jet ornament. Mrs 0. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Christchurch branch of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children and the- Christchurch Karitane Baby Hospital for the year ending March- 31st, states that the committee takes pleasure in recording the well-merited honour conferred od the - founder and president—Sir Trilby King—whose work has been recognised bv his Majesty the King as being of the utmost value to the Empire. .1" connexion with the Mothers' Cottage tho Committee reports receipt of a grant of £SOO from the Government toivavds the cost of the cottagp.
