The Lord Mayor of London was tho principal guest at a civic banquet at Verdun on the ninth anniversary of tie Battlo of Verdun. M. Poincare, in a speech, said he believed that London's generosity ia adopting Verdun was not a demonstration of passing sentiments, but brilliant testimony to unshakeable friendship. Verdun's citizens realised tho sympathies and interests which elosely united tho two countries. Ho therefor* A toasted the perennial alliance of the British and French peoples.
