LOCAL AND GENERAL. Bequests to Canterbury College. The Canterbury College Board of Governors have received two bequests of £3OOO each for the purpose of establishing scholarships at the College. One is from the trustees in the Lissie Eathbone estate, Waipawa, and the other from Mrs Gabbatt, wife of Professor J. P. Gabbatt. New Eailway Tariff. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has set up a number of subcommittees to examine thoroughly the new railway tariff. Eef orm Organiser for North Canterbury. Mr A. E. Loach, who stood in the Eeform interests for the Avon seat at last General Election, has been appointed organiser for the Eeform Party in North Canterbury. Letters to the Editor. Eepresentatives of the iihions concerned in the Australian shipping dispute have submitted proposals for a settlement to the Premier. Chinese Strikes. The situation in Hong Kong has improved, and the banks and Stock Exchange havo decided to reopen. Blockade of Riffis. The Powers have been notified of a Franco-Spanish agreement to blockade the Riff coast. Franco-German Trust. It is reported that a Franco-German iron and steel trust has been formed. Clash in Hyde Park. There was a clash in Hyde Park b«tvtcon British Fascisti and Socialists who were holding au ojpen-air meeting.
