RUGBY. ASHBURTON SUB-UNION. Thc.-weekly meeting of the Ashburton County Rugby Sub-Union v. : as hold last evening. Present—Messrs W. F. Watters (president), 11. J. Chapman, L. Grieve, M. C. The Methven Club -wrote protesting againsta player named A. J. Wright playing for the Hinds Football Club -without first having a clearance from Methven.

It was decided to write to the SpringburnMayfleld Club asking whether Wright or the Slethven Club had asked for the former's clearance to ,ioin Jtethven. It was agreed to accep! the invitation of the South Canterbury Kugby Union to play tho annual representative match at Timaru on August 22nd. A letter from the. Canterbury Rugby Union stated that the dates for the Northern v. Southern Sub-Unions and Town v. Country matches had been fixpd for July loth and L'2ud respectively. The Upiou had adopted tho following recommendations received from the Sub-Union Conference:That, the rules be amended to provide that ■1 sub-union holding a shield at the beginning of the season, and not having lost it until after the dates fixed for lodgment of challenges be. given the right to issue a challenge niter having lost the shield, and that one week be tho time allotted such a sub-union in which to exercise this right. That the closing date for challenges for the Southbridge Shield iu future years be Juno loth. The president was appointed manager of fhe senior team to contest the Southbridgo Shield against Ellcsmcre at Snulhbridge on Saturday, and Mr W. K. Tucker was appointed manager of the B team to play Mackenzie nt. Ashburton on Saturday.

A report was received from the New Zealand Football Association Elating that it had beer.' proposed to hold an art union with three other sports bodies in Wellington. A committeo consisting of Messrs Campbell, Graves, and Salmon had been appointed to consider the proposal and report at tho next meeting of the Council. The following dates submitted by Auckland for the Brown Shield, had been accepted: v. North Auckland, June 27th; v. Wellington, August Bth. A letter had been received from Mr J. Lewis, manager of the English touring team, advising that it would be impossible for his team to visit New Zealand; as the men had to' be in ! England by September 4th, 3925. The.following five additional entries for the Chatham Cup had been received: —Manawatii, U.S.A., Rangers, Athletic, St. Andrew's and Foxton.

The report was received. A letter was received from the Lyftelton Club strongly protesting against the refereeing in their'match at English Park on June 13th.

Mr Bunt, in speaking to the motion, said he thought the incident should be closed. Players should go on the field prepared to accept the referee's decisions. . The motion was lost. A letter was received from the Town Clerk asking the Association to send representatives to a public meeting to arrango entertainments for the officers and nun of the American Fleet. Messrs Bentham and Bunt were appointed to attend. Mr J. McCreanor wrote tendering his resignation owing to pressure of engagements. A letter was received from the St. Aibans Club applying for the reclassification of E. Grimes from senior to junior. The matter was referred to (he Classification Committee. The Spreydon Domain Board wrote permitting the club the use of one grou'id for the 1925 season. A letter was received from the Thistle Club to the effect that Mr Duvid Thomson had been appointed delegate in place of Mr W. Campbell, who had resigned. Tlie secretary was instructed to write to the West Coast and Otago Associations to endeavour to arrange matches during the season at English Parte.
