LOCAL LICENSING BENCH.
TO THE EDITOR Oi' "THE TBESS.
Kir,—lt is distinctly interesting to find our Magistrate to-day taking a strong stand regarding tho conducting of certain hotels in this district. During recent days revelations havo como to°light which arc- distinctly damaging to the Trade. Wo have expected the Press to make its usual fair-minded comments on this matter, it is consistently so fair-minded to tho Prohibitionists, and has th© Trade eo much at heart, that we wonder at this silence. Recently men have been gaolcu toy taking cars for joy-riding. The result is that the police are not now bothered with complaints regarding lost cars. If our Magistrate could Again take, his courage in both hands and fearlessly endorse licenses for a it would hr.vo a very salutary effect. Seemingly si license is so sacred that to endorse it is much more serious than to send a man to gaol.—Yours, etc., PRESS SUBSCRIBER.
