WIRELESS BOARD.

TO CONTROL BROADCASTING. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, Juno 27. In pursuance of a promise given last session, the then Minister of Post and Telegraphs, the Hon. J. G. Coates, who was asked to amend tho Act governing wireless broadcasting, has through the Post and Telegraph Department set m motion the necessary machinery for tho setting up of a Wireless Advisory Board, to act in an cx-officio capacity upon all matters affecting broadcasting It is proposed that the Board sha'll consist of the Minister as chairman with two representatives front tho Post and Telegraph Department, Messrs \. T. Markman (secretary of the i. and T.), E. A. Shrimpton (chief telegraph engineer), one representative from tho broadcasting companies, and ono from tho listeners-in. Matters have now reached the stag© where it only remains for a ballot to bo taken in respect to tho listeners-in in order to determine whom their representative shall be. This ballot is being carried out on behalf of this section by tho Post and Telegraph Department, and it is anticipated that the ballot papers will be distributed for voting purposes at an early date. Only those who held licenses on May 31st will, however, be entitled to vote. Nominations for the position of representative from the listeners-in closed on Juno 21st, when the following names were received: —Messrs («. M. Salt (Auckland), E. F. Hollands (Wellington), and L. G. J. Slade (Christchurch). It is considered that the Board, acting in an advisory capacity, will smooth out the difficulties that at present arise between the various parties interested in broadcasting, and will be of valuable assistance in advising tho most suitable lines of development, and upon tho technical side generally.
