As a boy. Admiral Robert Coontz, Commander-in-Chief of the. United States Fleet now in the Pacific, a portion of which will shortly visit NewZealand, passed much of his time in a printing shop in Hannibal. He is in his sixty-first year, and has been in command of the fleet fcince August, 1923. For six years he was in the Alaskan service, becoming proficient as a pilot in those waters, and was executive officer on the Nebraska when tho American fleet sailed round the world in 1908. He was Governor of Guam in 1912-13, and commanding officer of the Georgia in 1913lu, hi 3 vessel winning the fleet gunnery trophv. At the end of the present cruise of the Pacific, it is proposed that Admiral Coontz will retire from active service with the fleet, and will take up shore duty for three years, after which he will retire from the service permanently.
