Holmdale, Wellington, July Ist. SHIPPING NOTES. The Breeze is to load here to-day for Wellington and Wanganui. The Wootton is to be' dispatched this afternoon for Wellington direct. The Ripa arrived yesterday from Wanganui, and is to sail to-day for Dunedin and Timaru. Tho Wairau is to load to-day for Blenheim. The Karetu, which is discharging Sydney cargo hore, is t'o sail to-day for Dunedin, Bluff, and Melbourne. She will in future run in the Melbourne-South Island trade. Tho Wingatui should arrive to-inorrow from Timaru, and will load for Auckland. She sails via Wellington. The Waikouaiti is expected to sail tomorrow for Timaru to complete loading for Sydney. The Storm, due from .Timaru to-morrow, loads for Wellington and Wanganui. The Koromiko,. with cargo from Adelaide and Hobart, is due on Thursday from Dunedin. She is to sail on Friday for Wellington. The Orepuki is timed to load here on Wednesday for Nelson, Westport; and Greymouth. The Holmdale is expected from Timaru on Wednesday to load for Wellington and Wanganui. The Keelung arrived on Saturday from Wellington with New York cargo for discharge. She is to sail to-morrow for Wanganui to continue discharge. Captain J. Thomson has been appointed master of the Waitemata, relieving Captain G. B. Morgan. Mr A. Fordyce has joined the Corinna as third engineer in succession to Mr G. MacDonald.

Mr L. Sinclair is now third mate of the Karetu. Mr J. B. Ramsay has signed off the Karetu's articles, and Mr J. Mclnnes haß joined the vessel in his stead. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Tekoa is due at Wellington about Thursday from Auckland, to continue discharge of her London cargo. The Shaw-Savill liner Pakeha left Wellington, on Friday morning for Timaru, Lyttelton, and Bluff, 1o complete loading for Home. She is expected to clear Bluff on July Bth for London, via Monte Video and Teneriffe. Captain K. McCarthur, master of B. S. Lamb and Co.'s intercolonial cargo carrier, Joan Craig, is perhaps the youngest master to visit Wanganui in charge of a deep-sea vessel (says the "Chronicle"). It will be some years before Captain McCarthur notches his thirtieth year. Be was for some time second mate of the popular trader Inga, and up to recently held the position of chief officer of the well-known steamer Omana. His present visit to Wanganui is his first .experience as captain of a deep-sea going vessel.

STEAMER IN A GALE.

(PHESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.} AUCKLAND, June 27. Tho Danish steamer Sierra Morena encountered very rough weather and a heavy gale on Thursday last. High seas continually came aboard. They wrenched the rudder and broke the chain of the wheel gear. The steamer drifted helplessly for an hour and a quarter. Repairs enabled her to rcsum* the voyage. The chief officer, .Tohnsen, was thrown on deck. His left foot was injured, and he was incapacitated for the rest" of the trip. PORT OF TIMARU.
