Among the guests at Warner's Hotel are Messrs Wilfred Hall (Glenvoy), P. L. Halsted (Dunedin), and W. Cuthbertson and H. C. Morton (Ohiugaiti).

Messrs A. N. Morris (Wellington), N. A. Wallis, aud A. T. Wallis (Dunedin) are staying at the Clarendon Hotel.

Messrs H. Jackson (Bradford), P. Thompson (Ashburton), and E. Taylor (Sydney) are .among the guests at the United Service Hotel. Sir Joseph Ward arrived in Christchurch from Invercargill last evening and will go north by to-night's ferry steamer.

Several changes have taken place in the ChristchUrch Police Force. SubInspector A. Cameron lias been promoted to Inspector of Pslico in Gisborne. Senior-Sergeant J. A. Matthew, of Hamilton, has been appointed SubInspector at Christchurch in placo of Sub-Inspector A. Cameron. Sergeant A. G. Quartermain, of St. Albans, has been promoted to the rank of SeniorSergeant of tho Dunedin Force, while Sergeant D. Hyland, Eeefton, has been transferred to St. Albans. SeniorSergeant I. 11. Mathieson, of Dunedin, lias been transferred to Ashburton to fill the vacancy mado by tho retirement of Senior-Sergeant D. Jackson.

On Thursday afternoon a large number of business men gathered at the Grand Hotel, Damedin, to bid farewell to Senior-Sergeant Mathieson prior to his departure for Askburton, to which district he Las been transferred, and to make the presentation of a peggybae and contents to Mrs Mathieson. Several speakers bore testimony to tho popularity enjoyed by Senior-Sergeant Mathieson, and to the conscientious and tactful manner in which he'had carried out his duties, and wished him prosperity in tho future. They wero extremely sorry that tho Sen'ior-Ser-goant was leaving them, and wished him and Mrs Mathieson every success.
