At the annual meeting of the Plunket Society, to be held on Wednesday next. Lady Hosking, who was the first president of the Plunket Society when it was started in Dunedin in 1907, will deliver an address. La:!y Hosking has lately returned from England, and while th<ve she spoke to an assemblage of 7CO people at Wembley, on the work of the "Plunket Society.

At the monthly meeting of the Pticrarton Branch of the W.C.T.U., there was a large attendance of members and friends. Being the onening day of the Cradle 8011, the president expressed a desire to see more mothers and children Htend the meeting. SOCIAL WELFARE GUILD. I The annual meeting of the Social Welfare Guild was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs Annie E. Herbert presiding over a large .attendance of members. The annual report stated that many sick r»ersons had been constantly visited bv Guild members. The Guild ivas. indebted to all who had assisted by donations of cash, clothing, food, etc Manv families had received parce's of Christmas gifts. JDuring. the year the members of the Guild had provided manv enjoyable evenings at the Jubilee Home, and their efforts were 'much .appreciated by the old. people. HARBOUR LIGHTS GIRLS' OVERSEAS CLUB.

These included the hiaking of garments, for children .at the Cashmere 1 resh-Air Home, and the arrangement of a picnic for these children at Pleasant Point, and the entertainment .of visiting sailors from overseas, including the men of the French sloop, Aldebaran, and the Special Service Squadron. Reference was made to the loss sustained bv the .death of Lady Denniston who had.taken such a kindly interest in tho welfare of the club. BALL AT RAKAIA. On Thursday evening, in the Town Hall, the Te Mihr.ro Hockey Club held a Green and Gold Ball, which proved to be very successful and enjoyable. There was' a large attendnce, visitors being present from Ashburton, Duusandel, Leeston, Done, Mitcham, Ptokeby and Mead. The hii-11 was prettily decorated with hanging baskets or flowers <iml greenery connected by streamers of green and gold, the club'a cO&mrs. The walls were decorated with jnasses of greenery and crossed hockey sticks. The stage was enclosed by a" lattice of green and gold surmounted by the club's mascot, a. black cat. J A. and Mrs Asher, Napier, and Dr J N. Natters, eldest son of Mr and Mrs \\. I. Waiters, of Ashburton, were united in holy matrimony by the ltev J. A. Asher,' assisted by the Rev p Ramsay, of Hastings, the church was most tastefully decorated by p-irl friends.

The hride. who was given away Inner brother, Mr W. Asher, looked graceful in a gown of white cliarmeuse beaded with pearls. Her richly embroidered veil was held by a circlet of pearls with clusters of orange blossom on either side. She wore a beautiful pendant of sapphires, and diamonds, the gift of tho bridegroom. A beautiful £howor bouquet of palo pink roses and fern completed a very charminc- toilette.

The two bridesmaids, Miss Roma Asher, .sister of the bride, and Miss Eden Macfarlane, mad© a very pretty picture in ecru Shetland lace frocks, with golden sashes. Very pretty bandeaux of autumn-tinted leaves' were worn, and they carried beautiful bouquets to tonu. Mi Stewart Christio, of Ashburton. earned out tho duties of best man, and Mr J. K. Asher acted as groomsman. The bridegroom's gifts to the bridesmaids were pearl necklaces. After tho ceremony a reception was held in the Foresters' Hall, and was very largely attended. The hride travelled in a. grey marocain frock, black fur coat, and black hat with Oriental trimming. Mrs Ashor, mother of the Jrido, wore black embossed marocain with silver trimmings, and black and silver hat; Mrs Watters, mother of the bridegroom, black marocain with touches of of white, a smart black hat; Miss Ashor (aunt of the bride), handsomely embroidered gown of oyster grey velotir cloth and chic hat to tone. They carried early Victorian' posies of violets and daphne. Dr. and Mrs Watters left for their Lome in Gore, whore tho Key. J. A. and Mrs Asher had their first home, and where their daughter was born. L AUIUE-MESSENGER. A very pretty wedding was solemnised in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, when Lilian' Ada, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Messenger, Palmerston North, was united in marriage to Jemes Part, younger son of Mr and Mrs F. A. Laurie, Pctone. ■ The Rev. G. T. Brown was tho officiating minister. «•* The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a dainty i tunic frock of brocaded crepe de chine, trimmed with swansdown, draped at one side and caught with a pearl ornament. . She earned a shower bouquet. The lovely bridal veil was prettily draped and held in place with pearls and orange blossom. The bridesmaids. Miss Dollie Laurie, sister of tho bridegroom, and Miss Eileen Messenger, sister of the bride, worc.dainty frocks of pale pink and palo lilue 'silverine, trimmed with swansdown. lihe bridegroom was 'supported by Mr F.., Laurie, as best man, and Mr W. Hauier as groomsman. After the ceremony. the guests adjourned to Broadway Lounge, where, n reception l was belt. and the usual toasts were honoured.

ANDERSON—VINE.

The; marriage took place at the residence of the bride'g'parents, Lyttolton, on' Wednesday afternoon, of Elsie, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. J. Vine, to LesKo John, elder son of Mr and Mrs Anderson, Manukau. The ceremony was perf ormod by the Rev. "W. F. Nichol, of St. John's Presbyterian Church, and the bride, who was given away by her .father, looked charming in a bridal dress of apricot dmbossed inarocain, " with shoes and stockings to match.. The bridesmaid, Misa Dorothy Anderson, of Masterton, sister of the bridegroom, woro saxe blue velveteen,,with bandeau to match. Mr Baden Vine, brother of the biide, was best man. The wedding breakfast was held at tho residence, where tho mother of the bride received her guosts. Mrs Vine was wearing navy blue crepe do chine, handsomoly embroidered. PATERSON—CRAIG. The marriage took place at St. Paul's Church, Cashel street, on Thursday afternoon, of Ada, only daughter of Mrs A. E. Craig, to Mr Alfred Paterson, both of Chrißtchurch. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. Bower-Black, assisted by the Rev. John Paterson, brother of tho bridegro6m. Mr Raynor White was organist. The bride, who was given away by her (brother, Mr H. Craig, woro a charming frock of palest shell-pink brocaded satin, made on straight lines, the slight fullness at each side being finished with bead cabouchons. Her veil, hand-embroidered by her mother, fell from a coronet of orange blossoms, and silver leaves, and her bouquet was composed of pale pink and white flowers. j The bridesmaids were Misses S. Aitkin and Florrie Munro, from Invercargill, cousins of the bride, who wore frocks of pal© lavender taffeta, and Miss Joyce Thornton, whose frock was of pink shot taffeta. Their veils, which matched their frocks, were worn" with coronets of silver leaves, and tßey carried bouquets of purple violets. Mr McGallum, of Grevmouth. was jest man, and the Rev. Theo. A wedding was solemnised at JStColumbin, Church, Horsley Down, between Doris Honeyboue and Gordon Dt'lzell. Tho ceremony was performed bv the Ew. W. Orange, Waikari. Mr Vere Honevbone, brother of the bride, was best man. Tho bride, who was given awav by her father, wore a three-piece" suit of grey French inarocain, the vest being of tucked henna crepe de chine and coat and front panel stitched with henna and blue silk. Her hat was a close-ntting grey velvet, with henna blue trimmings. Sho carried a bouquet of cream chrysanthemums with pink tints. The bridesmaid, Miss Alma Hcneybone, cousin of the bride, wore a pretty frock of brown shot taffetas caught at the side with a rosette and streamers. A brown crinoline hat was worn with cinnamon satin streamers. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents.
