The Town Clerk, Christchurch, wrote onclosing application {orai? for heavy traffic licenses. The Town Clerk, Christchurch, wrote asking that the Council T>e represented at a, public meeting on Tuesday, at. 3 p.m., for the purpose- of making arrangement lor the entertaining <f tho officers arid men of a. section ci the American Fleet, which vill arrive in Lytlclton on August Hth and stay until August 21st. The Mayor was appointed to attend the meeting. Tho .State Fjycst Scrvico wrote asking for particulars ot tho area, which tho Council contcmnlntcd planting in tho season 1323-26. It was decided to reply that the Council were unable to do any treo planting thi3 season. The Finances Committee reported that it .eas not very hopeful of receiving at an early date from the State Advances the turn of £1250 for the Town Clerk's house, and recommended that the application he allowed to stand, and liuit £1250 be raised at H per cent, for SSJ years, tho Clerk to pay as rent tho oquiva «nt of tha. interest on loan moneys expended. The amended pians for a, Town Hall, costing between £6OOO and £6500, lad been received, and it recommended that tenders be called in brick, or concrete, at tho earliest possible date. Tho committee had no recommendation to make in respect to the request 'of the Fire Brigade for a motor engine. With reference to tho electrical choking rate, it was resolved that tha present charges be allowed to sttrnd, with the addition of the following special cookine rate (through separate jmskirs, viz., l£»! per unit, with minimum charges as follows : os per month for tho first k.w., 4s 9d per month for tho secojid k.w., 3s for the t> ird, and 2s 6d for all over three k.w. It was recommended that Mr W. It. Piko be appointed examiner for certificates of ability to drive motor vehicles, and that owners of livo fences growing to within seven feet of the kerb he notified to have them cut back; also, that tho public pound ho closed.
Tho Gas Manager reported thai it had not been necessary to do any Sunday work. The frost had been troublesome, causing a number of complaints. Mr Parker would make- a «tart shortly on the ncv,- retorts. Two new connexions had been made during tho month.
Tho Electrical Engineer reported that the revenue for May vtw £-235 Ss Bd. as against £•229 10a 3d for the samo period last year. Tho Town Clerk reported that three permits had toon issued for building 3 of_ an ageregate value of £450. Mr F. Roberta, of Dunedin, was appointed
engineer to report upon rho high-prcs£ur water supp.j and drainage fchcnles. The Mayor ststc.i that rabbit poisonin was beinir cavried out in the Ashler liver bed. which was a great clanger to th. public and children, and it was decided t< advertise ;i vamir.L*.
