When a severe cold on the chest persists, vigorous measures are necessary if all danger is to be avoided. Give the patient a hot bath and a laxative. Apply hot wet towels to the throat and chest to open the pores. Massage briskly with Vicks for five minutes. Spread For Children's Colds Vicks is especially valuable for children's colds, because it is applied externally and, therefore, avoids dosing" the stomach with so much internal medicine. For colds in the head, nasal catarrh or asthma, just melt a little Vicks in a spoon and inhale the fOR ALL medicated vapours. Vicks on thickly and cover with two thicknesses of warm flannel. Used in this way Vicks has a twofold action. It is absorbed through the skin like a poultice and, at the same time, vaporised by the body heat and inhaled direct to the lungs. The bedclothing should be left loose about the neck so that the vapours may be freely inhaled. Repeat the whole treatment every few hours.
