COUNTY COUNCILS.
SPRINGS. T'ao monthly meeting of the Sprints County Council was held on Thursday, Cr. A. Thompson presiding. The Selwyn Plantation Board advised that the Council's application for the supply of 5000 trees had been granted. It was decided to have tree planting done on a Cornell reserve. Mr VT. Mounce, Springston, drew attention to a dangerons corner near his plaeo. Tnere was a wide ditch on either side of the -oad, and the actual roadway was not much more than half a chain in width from the electric light pole on one sido, to tho ditch on tho other. Cr. Rowell corroborated the complaint about the narrowness of the road It was agreed that tho chairman. Or. Simpson, and the engineer, should Inspect the corner, with power to have whatever improvement thoy considered necessary, carried out. Mr '\V. H. Jackson. Springston south, wrote askinc the Council to put a light coat of shingle from the corner of his gate. Th<3 request was s>greed to. The chairman of the Springston South School Committee applied for permission to obtain soil from the sides of roads to fill vp the school ground. Tho quantity required was about 50 loads. The tngineer reported having already granted permission, and his action was approved. Messrs O. T. Mnlcock and D. Colqnhoun waited upon the Council on behalf of the Canterbury Provincial Committee in connexion with the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, with a request that the Ccunoi! should make a contribution to the Canterbury Court. Several local bodies had already been interviewed nnd had ogTead to contribute. The amount a.d<ed for was Is for each £IOOO of capital value. After the deputation had withdrawn, a resolution in favour of paying tho quota, was carried. It was decided to obtain a fresh supply of poisoned wheat for small birds. Cr. Yarr reported that Mr Hubbard, of Greenpari;, who had purchased a read grader for his own use, had sought permission from him to try it on the road past his place. Ho had given the permission, and was present when the trial had been made, and it was very satisfactory, the rond being greatly improved. The grader would do good work where there was any loose metal on tho road. Mr Hubbard was preparod to grade tho whole of tho road if the Council wished him to do so, and any other roads in the vicinity. It was agreed that the engineer should see Mr Hubbard and inspect the road. Members thought that the netting laid by the Ellesmeve County Council at Coe's Ford should be lifted' until after tho flood period, and it was agreed to make a suggestion to that effect. A resolution was carried striking a general rate of 3d in the £ in both ridings (Springston and Greenpark), and a Waimnkunri river rate of 1-Sd in the Greenpark riding. Tho financial statement showed a bank balance of £1023 4s lid.
