BAZAAR AT HAWARDEN.
The bazaar organised by the returned soldiers of the district in aid of the Returned Soldiers' Sick Benefit Fund was a great success. The hall was most beautifully decorated for the occasion, under the supervision of Mr 11. T. Little and divided into stalls allotted to various districts. Tho result of the sale exceeded expectations, the sum of £644 8s being raised. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr I'. Mowatt," president of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Ho read apologies from Mr r G. N. Forbes, M.P., Colonel Chaffey and others. The following wcro in charge of tho different stalls:—Mason's Flat, Mrs H. T. Little; Hawnrden, Mrs C. H. Willis; Hurunui and Medbury, Mrs J. K. Forrester; The Peaks, Mrs J. Quig ley; Waikari, Mrß R. Biunden. Each stallholder had a largo number of willing assistants. Goods left over were auctioned by Mr C. 11. Willis. Besides the sale of gifts there were a number of guessing competitions, amongst which were: —Weight of open sheep, 1701b, winner Mrs T. Leary; weight of dressed sheep, 521b, winner Mr G. Inch (531b); live sheep, dressed weight 1101b, winner Mr A. Daiziel). Guessing length of ribbon, Mr B. Marsden, 74ft sin. Time a clock stopped, 7 hours 42 minutes, Mr 0. Miles.
