DISTRESSING ACCIDENT.
INVALID ARTIST KILLED. (PHF.SS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WAXGANUI, June 25. A distressing accident occurred tonight, resulting in tho death of Mr A. J. Bird, known throughout New Zealand as a painter of pictures for Bird's Art Union. Dcccasva, who was an invalid, was benig wheeled to the Opera iiouse when a motor-car capsized ills chair and killed mm. -Ur Bird was a man of very tine character. Though noie only to move ins hands, he developed an artisnc gilt, and for a number of years had paintou pictures and run 'art, unions, in ad quarters of tlio Dominion. The painting was a labotions work, tho canvas having to be suspended above the artist's chair. In spite of his handicap, Mr Bird was celebrated for his good humour and patience. The news of h:s deatn caused a good deal of regret.
