CITY POPULATIONS.
CHRISTCHURCH THIRD PLACE. According to tho New Zealand Gazetto of June 13th, the estimated metropolitan populations of the different chief centres as en April Ist, 192-3, are as follows : Auckland ISOJ'JO "Wellington 118,190 Christcliurcli 118,270 Dunedin ... ... 77,480 Hitherto tho metropolitan area of Christchurch has earricil a larger population than' that of Wellington, and Christchurch ranked second in tho cities of tho Dominion. It lias now fallen to third place. Tho census next year will provide actual population figures, and Christchurch may then regain her former position as second city in tho Dominion.
