♦ Direction boards Erected. Borough workmen yesterday erectod direction boards for motorists nt the corners of Norwich quay and Oxford street, Oxford street and the Sumner road, Norwich quay and Dublin street, and Dublin street and London street. The boards, which were supplied by the Canterbury Autdmobile Association, bear the words, "To Christchurch, via Sumner, 13 miles," and have been a long felt want by motorists, especially strangevt to the port. Harbour light Theatre. "The Hurricane Kid," starring Hoot Gibson, will be repeated at the Harbour Light Theatre to-night, together with two comodics and a News. To-morrow "Three Wise Fools," a First National production with an all-star cast, will be screoued. The supporting programme includes a comedy, Bcenic. and Gazette. A special attraction at the evening session will be the ftppemnee of two local singers, Miss Ella Thurlow and Mr Les Toomey. A.O.F. The quarterly meeting of Court Queen of the Isles, A.0.F., was held on Tuesday evening, C.R. Bro. A. Shrimpton presiding. Th 6 major part of tlie evening takon up discussing the Juvenile Court, which will be oponed during the early part of next month. The following members wero elected a management committee of the Juvenile Court: Bros. S. W. Lane, A. Shrimpton, F. Coleman, Q. A. Waters, Allen Brookes and Saunders. Three candidates wore nominated for membership. Sunday Schools' Association. The Lyttelton Branch of tlio School of Religious Education held a further session on Tuesday evening in the Presbyterian Schoolroom, Miss Warner and assistants addressing the meeting. The subject for dismission was: "Expressions! Activity and Handwork." Those present divided into groups corresponding with the ng6s Of the children in which they Were interested. All leaders spoke, on tho same lines, each one dealing with the development of the child and pointing out that all impressions are revealed through expression, tho inner impressions being more vital in their outer expressions. The importance of handwork in its social, missionary and dramatic sphere was particularly emphasised. All points given were most beautifully illustrated. Before the meeting closed votes of thanks were accorded to Miss Warner and her assistants for their inspiring addresses. Magistrate's Court. Messrs F. Sulton and J. T. Norton, J.P.-'s, presided at the Magistrates Court yesterday. A first offender for drunkenness was convicted and fined 10s audi costs. John Thomas Mace, a fireman in-the liner Port Melbourne, pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and also to having Used obscene language. Sergeant J. W. McHolm said that when warned by a constablo to get down to his ship, Mace used tho obscene language. Accused was convicted and fined 10s on th* first charge, and £2, or in default 14 days' imprisonment for using obsceno language. Peter Frederick Rookerson and Edward Stephenson, also firemen in the Port Melbourne, who had been bailed out on the sum of £2 each, to allow them to leave with the vessel, were charged with obstructing Constable W. -J. Irwin in the execution of his duty. Sergeant ,T. W. McHolm said that as the constable was arresting Maco the two men endeavoured to release him and dragged the constable from one side of Oxford street to the other. , The Bench fined each accused in the amount of his bail. £2.
