RUGBY.
TO-MORROW'S GAMES. Bright, sparkling Rugby should be the Order of the day at Lancaster Park to-mor-row, whan the clash between Linwood and Christchurch will take place on the oval. With the present state of the competition, -four teams being level, enthusiasm in Rugby circles is at present at fever heat, and tho crowd present at the Park to-morrow should be far in excess of all previous records. Both teams havo given some fine exhibitions this season, and sinco both nro in tho pink of condition and training "hard, tho game should bo without equal. Linwood were unfortunate somo timo ago iu losing tho services of AV. Elvy, but his placo will be filled by a new member of tho club, who JR reported to be a flno player , This Is Leo Cornaga, who has played on the wing for tho Potonc Club (Wellington) for the past three seasons, and who now resides in Christchurch. The Christchurch team will be the same as that which defeated Merivalo last Saturday, so they can bo relied upon lo put up- L very flno showing. It is an open Question which side will carry off the honours of tho day, but it would be interesting to know if the C.li. Union's sign on tho City Hotel will again prove a true forecast of tho position of the teams at the final whistle. ■ So far this season it has not failed in this respect. A game of unusual merit thould bo that between 'Varsity and Albion on tho south ground. Both teams are low down on tho competition ladder, but both play good, dashing football. Tho gamo should bo very even, with 'Varsity, superior > in the back division and Albion in 1 the for■wards. Old Boys tako a day in the country at Rangiora, to piny North Canterbury, at Kangiora. If North Canterbury retain their form of last Saturday, when they boat Linwood, the town team -will havo a very exciting timo to avoid defeat. On the west ground 'Varsity and Mori vale benior B teams meet, while patrons at the Show Grounds will be provided with first-class football in the Technical v. Biccarton match in the senior B grado, and in Albion v. 'Varsity (juniors). Merivale seniors take their position on the bank this week. TEAMS FOR TO-MORROW.

The second round o£ matches will ho commenced to-morrow, and with ihreo teams level at the head of tho championship there is plenty of speculation as to who will te tho ultimate winners. Hornby and Marists A two cf tho loading teams, will meet on the Xo. 1 ground at Monica Park, and the -rame is expected to bo equally as exciting S3 that of the first round, when Hornby won Bfter a splendid exhibition. The inclusion of some of tho best men of the Marists B team will considerably strengthen the Greens, and they expect to beat Hornby. Hornby are striving hard to win tho chammonship this year, and the meeting to-mor-row should bo a. memorable one. On tho Xo 2 ground tho gamo between Marists B ard Svdenham should provide eonio sparklin" football, and if tho latter play up to the form tb«y showed last week they should have a. good" win. On the Papsnui Domain ■Waimairi will meet Linwood, and Addington and will play at tho Addington Beserve. . "

WELLINOTOX, June 25. At a meeting; of the Council of the New Zea'and Football Association held to-night, Mr J. Lewis, manager of the Knglish. team, wrote" regretting he was unable to accept an invitation to visit the Dominion as the guest oi the Association. Ho explained the system of insurance of players in England, and"expressed the opinion that thero was little hope of New Zealand being invited to send a team to Eneland, or of the 15.P.A- fivine financial assistance to Xew Zealand. A letter from the Auckland Association Objected to the way in which the Council proposed to divide the receipts from cup games which, if adhered to, would necessitate a revision ot their entries. Exception was taken to the tone of the letter, and the repl7 of the secretary giving the reason for the Council's division of gates was approved. It was decided to -write to the Chinete United Association for further particulars of tho proposed vir>it to England before considering a tour of Xew Zealand en route.
