BUSES IN AUCKLAND.
SUPREME COURT DECISION. (rBESS ASSOCIATIOS TBLEOKAIt.) AUCKLAND, Juno 24. His Honour Mr Justice Reed, in his decision on the application by omnibus proprietors to quash the Ly-law prohibiting buses plying in Queen street, said: —''The evidence of tho trafiic inspector satisfies me that motor omnibuses are the real cause of congestion in Queen street. It appears to mo, however, that this congestion is only existent during working hours, and that after 6.30 in the evening, on Sundays, and those holidays on which the shops are closed, and commercial vehicles not in use, there is no reason why tha exclusion should then apply." He held that in excluding buses from Queen street, and presenting routes for buses, tho council was acting within its powers. That there was no substance in the allegation of unreasonableness regarding the routes prescribed. The by-law should be amended, in the direction of permitting the use of Quoen street by buses after 0.30 p.m., also on Sundays and holidays. The motion would be adjourned for further consideration, and the City Council would submit an amendment in the direction indicated.
