AUCTIONS. H. MATSON AN3> 00. MATSOS AND CO. REPORT ON ADDINGTON MARKET. STORE SHEEP. The entry comprised about 4000 all ioid. There was "just a medium attendance. The bulk of the sheep looked well, actually carrying a bloom notwithstanding the -wintry leather conditions that we have been having. For best owes and for hoggets prices were consistent at from par to Is per hesd advance on last week's rates. Ewes with no teeth and lighter hoggets, and one or two pens of wethers, late shorn, maintained last week's rates. The enquiry for awes was maintained. The older ewe is just starting to make a demand, us Vendors are keeping well in mind the possibility of selling all counted in the spring. JOR BEST RESULTS, CONSIGN TOUR STOCK TO 11. MATSON AND CO., ADDINGTON. FAT LAMBS. The total entry of fat lambs ura* 800, of irhich H. MATSON AND CO.'s entry was 150. The yarding was made up of irregular lots, and showed for the most part that they were slipping in condition, and many were plain and unfinished. The attendance was small, and competition generally dragged nnd no one seemed to have any ginger. As a matter of fact there was very little that was attractive as far as the export buyer was concerned, and with the exception of one or two local tradesmen the butchers were not buying in this section. The prices current to-day were from 29s 6d to 36s for best quality, and 243 6d to 29s for second quality. TOR BEST RESULTS CONSIGN TOUR STOCK TO H. MATSON AND CO., ADDINGTON. PAT CATTLE. The entry comprised 530 head, oC which H. Matson and Co.'s quota was 125. Tho entry was a cosmopolitan one, all grades being fairly represented, but the greater portion showed the signs of slipping in condition, and many could be quoted as squeezers—that is, they just squeeze into the class. A number of hard, unfinished steers off station properties were sent forward, and these, while they brought good prices, were unattractive, being neither one thing nor the other. In the opening portion of the sale two races of steers of excellent quality were offered, and the market opened keenly at an advance on previous rates, but this was largely attributable to the good quality. As tho sale progressed it was easily noticeable that prices were irregular, and it could not help being so with the varied catalogue that was on offer; nevertheless we maintain that taking the sale as a whole, values generally were higher than the previous week, especially for steers. Numerous lots of cows and heifers well finished sold irregularly at from last week's rates to n hardening tendency. We quote as follows: Extra heavy steers, from £lB 10s to £2O 2s 6d. Prime steers, £l4 10s to £l6 15s. Medium steers, £ll to £l2 10s. Light steers, £7 to £8 10s. Heifers, extra- prime from £9 to £lO 10s. Prime heifers, £7 to £8 15s. Medium heifers, from £5 to £6 10s. Light heifers, £8 16s to £4 10s. Cows, extra heavy, sold from £lO to £ll ,17s 6d. Prirao cew«, £7 to £8 15s. Medium cows, £4 10s .to £6 10s. „ Light cows, £2 16s to £4. Some of our best sales were made on account of Peraki Estate: Steers to £l9 2s Ud. R, Judson, Oxford: Steers to £2O 2s Od (topped the market). W. Hay, Charteris Bay: Cows to £ll 2s 6d..
FOB BEST RESULTS CONSIGN - YOUR STOCK TO •' H. MATSON AND CO., ADDINGTON. PAT SHEEP. The entry in this department comprised .nine races, of 'which H. Matson and Co.'s portion was 765. The greater portion of the entry represented sheep that wore slipping back 'in condition, or that had never .reached a state of proficiency through lack of feed, and vendors were realising while the going was good. The attendance of buyers was not a very big one and competition was confined to quite a small section of them.' The average tradesman had no difficulty In filling his wants with ewes either first or second quality. We are of the opin- , from last weak s prices to a shade easier. In our opinion best wethers sold well, and ' while many predicted a sharp rise in them, it can only be brought about.- by the bareness or the smallness of an entry as on a price per lb they are undoubtedly fetching their fullest limit. We are of the opinion .that the market was irregular, with an easier '.basis of prices. This is perhaps accountable to the quality. 'Our best sales were:— Account J; R. Plainer sorts, while selling decidedly better than the previous week, were selling on a much lower scale. The sale throughout undoubtedly showed a sharp advance on previous rates. We quote:— Large runners up to £7 7s Cd. Best calves, £3 to £3 10s. . Good calves £2 7s 6d to £3 15s. Medium calves, £1 17s 6d to £4 ss. Small calves, 25s to 355. There was a good attendance of tho : public, but aa the greater portiou of the offerings ■ represented anything except what the buyers wanted, and many oi the lots could not be viewed to advantage owing to the lack of room, the sale consequently dragged, and there was a waste of time iu ■ getting out the various cows so that the • buyer* could sea them.
