MONTHLY MEETING.

With a view l 0 meeting the needs of the staff called upon to prepare the special diets that were necessary in the t e, tment cf disease, certain specific a Orations were proposed in the hcspital kUchen, and further equipment would also b? required. A plan cf the proposals, with a li3t of the equipment, was forward?d to the Finance Committee to cons d-r and recommend U the Board, if app.oved. The report was adopted. The Public Health Ccmiiittee reported that the fr-lowing i; s t c f notifications of infectious d'.seasrs during the month of May was received:—Scarlet fever 18, dlp'htheria 5, enteric Lver 1, tut erculcsis 17, puerperal sepsis 3, ervsjpelas 3, pneumonia 7, poliomyelitis 12: total 66. The Benevolent Committee reported that applications for benevolent assifltance de-alt with wcie 127, representing 380 persons. There had also been 13 amplications, for admission to institutions. The Finance Committee recommended that the salary of the medicjl officer in charge of the Venereal Diseases Clinic remain at £SOO a year, and that the Iwrarium of the chairman of the Board 1)3 fixed at i-2CO per annum for the next two years. The reecmmendalions were adopted. Departmental Beports. The Medical Superintendent reported that patients remaining in hospital from the previous month numbered 365, these admitted during May totalled 470, those discharged 452, and deaths numbered 19. Patients remaining in hospital on June Ist totalled 364. A total of 472 outpatients' case 3 had been dealt with.
Dr. P. Fenwick, offic.i in charge of the Radium and Deep Therapy Depaitment. reported that during the past month 30 new patients had applied for treatment. Of these, twenty'were euffering from some form of malignant disease. They had now 106 patients on the register. During this month they had given 162 radium applications and 23 deep therapy treatments. Tli3 number of attendances had been 392, malani a total of- 1431 attendances since January Ist. Radium had been .taken outside the hospital on three occasions. To South Canterbury, two patients; to "West Coast, four patients; and to Cliristchurch City. one patient. The deer) therapy tub. ceased to function after 101 "hours 13 minutes activity. The estimated life of this tube was 100 hours, so they had had full va^uc out of this tube. Dr Cameron, of Wellington, had tent a tube to use until the new water-cooled tube arrived from America. The "follow up" Bystem was working most satisfactorily. They had 32 .patients whose treatment was concluded reporting regularly by pest, and a large number of patients who lived in Christchurch who attended at regular in'crvals for re-examination. Since January they had received 100 written and ever 200 personal reports.
