S.I. TOURIST RESORTS.
QUESTION OF POPULARISING THEM. PROPOSED TOURIST AND PUBLICITY AGENCY. It is probable that effect will be given shortly to the decision, arrived at by tho conference: of representatives of South Island Progress and Development Leagues held a month or two ago in Invercargill, having for its object tho popularising of the tourist resorts of the South Island.
Olio direction in which this is to lie done is by each League incorporating in the booklet published by it an itinerary of the tourist attractions in the other provincial districts. By thus coordinating and reciprocating it is hoped that when tourists arrive in oiu part of t-lic South Island they will lid iuducecl to visit other parts. Another direction is a proposal to establish, in Auckland, a South Islaiid Tourist and Publicity Agency, uncier the charge of an efficient tourist and publicity agent. Amongst his duties will be' that of meeting oversea steamers on their arrival and oi interesting tourists in the attractions that tho South Island offers; also to encourage tourists to include the South Island in their itinerary. Ho will also distribute tho literature of the different Leagues. Tho organiser of v tlie Canterbury Progress League. (Mr P. R. Climio) is iutereHting himself in this movement and proposes to take it up with the executive at an early date. "With reference to tho telegram from Bunedin. published in yesterday's issue, setting out that the Arrangements Committee in connexion with the Empire Press Union had been reluctantly compelled to confine the delegates' tour of the Dominion to the North Island, Mr Climie intends taking up the matter with the view of endeavouring to get the South Island included in the delegates' itinerary.
