ATHLETICS.

SOUTHBRIDGE CLUB. -The annual meeting of the Athletic Club was held on Monday evening, about 35 members being present. Mr J. C. !• rce was in the chair.

The secretary. Mr 'W. J. Woods, presented the annual report, which stated that the past year's operations had been successful, although the committee was unable to report a credit oil the year's working, owing largely to the increased prize money paid at last sports. The annual road race (Sov.tli Island championship) had been successfully run on September 13th. A huge success had been made of the annual sports meeting on Labour Day, there being record goto takings. Working bees had been held on the eyeliner track, which had been banked up and graded. Thanks wera due to all officials and other helpers. The balancesheet showed a credit of £57 9s Id, which represented a loss of about £lO on the year's working. There were, however, unpaid subscriptions and entry fees totalling £23 IC3 Cd, which, if collected, would greatly improve the finances.

Answering an enquiry as to whether any action had b;en taken to collect tho outstanding entry fees, the secretary said that ho hfid spoken to ihe secretary of the Centre, Mr P. C. Lucas, who had told kim that the defaulters should be given another reminder, and that if they then failed to respond, their names vrould be placed- on the black list.

After several questions regarding the finances had been satisfactorily answered, the report and balahce-sheet were adopted. The -election of officers resulted a-s follows: —Patron, the Hon. Free, gave a short review of the year's activities, and thanked members for their loyal co-operation. The new president, Mr D. Taylor, thanked tho meeting for the honour conferred upon him.

Parkin said lie did not think the Centre had been fair to the club in allotting its road ra-co date to another club. It was distinctly understood last year that the da,te allotted to the Southbridge Club for its race should be retained in future yearn.
