Seamen's Institute.,. At the monthly meeting o£ the Lyttelton Ladios' Guild four new members were elected, making the total membership 52. It was decided to pay over to tho Society tho sum of £36 li)s iid, being tho proceeds of the recent jumblo sale and donations. Plunkot. Society. A special meeting of members of the Lyttelton Branch of tho Plunkot Society, convened by Mrs H. A.. Rhind, was held to make final arrangements for the forthcoming fancy dress dance. It was decided to hold the fiance .this week and to offer - prizes for the most original and also the best ladies' costumes, and the most original and tbest gentlemen's costume. Mr A. Leslie was (appointed to judge the most original costumes. ' Military Funeral. • The funeral of the', lato Private Royal ,Stafford Stewart took 'place yesterday afternoon, and was ono of the best-attended military funerals ever hold in Lyttelton. Tho service was conducted at the Methodist Church by the Rev. S. Bailey, ex-chaplain, to the Expeditionary Force, who read from the First Epistles and 15th Corinthians, and "The Dead March" was • played •by the organist, Mr Norman Williams. The chief mourners were Mr D. G.. Stewart. (father),. Mr S. Stewart (brother), Mr A. J. Williams (brother-in-law), Messrs C. D. Durham and W. J. Harkess (uncles), arid iMessrs C. D. Harkess and T.. Harkess (cousins.) Headed by the. firing party, under Staff-Sergeant Brown; and the Lyttolton Marine Band playing "The' Garland-of Flowers" the cortege left the church'for the public cemetery. About sixty returned soldiers paraded for the. funeral, and .the bearers, Lieutenants A. Stanley and 0. Gilmore, Corporal A. K. Smith, Privates W. Henderson, W. Bamford and E. Cummings were all returned soldiers. . Among those present wero the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), tho Town Clerk (MrF. Hobbs), several councillors and ex-councillors, . tho total numbor present being over - 300. The wholo of the patients from tho Rannerdalo Home who could do- so -were present. •■ Tho service at the graveside was taken by the Rev. S. Bailey, and after tho customary three volleys had been fired. Bandmaster W. Jeffries sounded "Tho Last Post." - Wreaths were received from "Dad,". Joyco and Albert, May and Stanley, Dolly and George, Auntie. Lil and Billa, Committee of Management Rannerdale' Homo, Mrs and Misß Preece, Mr and Mrs C.
