NEW SPORTS GROUND.

LANGDON ROAD PARK. At a combined meeting of the Papanui Burgesses' Association and Sports Club, held last night,, the question of purchasing the Langdon road Park property of 16£ acres, in the Waimair.i County, as a sports area, was dis cussed. There, was a large attendance, over which Mr F. Sisson presided.

It was reported that the price asked for the land was £3500,. of which it was proposed to raise £IOOO by subscriptions, donationSj galas, and other Junctions. It was proposed that the Waimairi County Council be asked to take a poll to raise £2OOO, which would bring the total to £I3OOO, and it was hoped that.the Government would grant tho balance of*purchase money, £SOO. The Minister of Lands wrote stating that Cabinet had approved of a graut of £250, on account of £SOO, and the necessary arrangements, were beinj; made to vote the full sum.

Considerable discussion followed on the ways and means of raising the money. It was pointed out that the ground- was exceptionally cheap. A Member:. Mr i\ Sissoh moved that a committee of five bo appointed to - draw up a scheme to he put before a later meeting of ratepayers concerned in the purchasing of tlie ground. '.".. Mr T. H. Qough seconded the motion, which was carriecT. It was subsequently decided to form two committees, one- to represent the Waimairi Riding and one to represent Greater Christchurch. Messrs F. Sisson, A. Pearce, J. Carrihgton, B. Sisson and G. Derrett, with T. H. dough (secretary), were appointed to represent the Waimairi Riding; and Messrs IS. Kruse R. RickerbyJ W. J.. Boyce, i«JY M. Baxter and'F. Bell, with .S. H. I Cox (secretary), to represent Greater . Christchurch.

It was decided that the Waimairi committee should meet in tho Papanuf Buildings on July Ist. ,
