A London cable states that the House of Commons read a third time the Merchant Shipping Bill, which has already passed the- House of Lords.
One of the most curious gifts received by tho Prince of during all his travels (siys a Capo Town message) was tho key to his own home at St". James's Palace, which was preaonted to him on behalf of an old lady at Pietcrsburg. Tho key was stolen irom George 111., in 17Si>, and given to Ladv Charlotto Finch, ft member of the 'Royal Household, and bequeathed by her to an ancestor of Miss Lawrence, of Pietcrsburg.
A mesßugo from Toronto states that tho General Council of tho Vnitcd Church of Canada has instructed the executive council to register a formal protest with the Secretary of State against tho use, by any religious body, of tho titles of any church entering the United Church. Tho action is a direct challenge to tho docision of thoao remaining Presbyterian*, to call themselves tho Presbyterian Church in Canada.
