The Ministry of Labour made an interesting investigation into the personal circumstances and industrial history of typical cases among 10,000 claimants for unemployed benefits. It was fpund that 62 per cent, of the men arid 77 por cent, of the women would normally be in steady employment. Only 3} per cent, of the men and 1J per cent, of tho women were verging upon unemployment, and they wero mainly elderly and in poor health.
Of tho unemployed men 24 per cent, bad been trained and 54 per cent, neither apprenticed- nor trained. Sixtysoven per cent, of the men and 73 per cent, of the women were in good health.
