HEAVY TRAFFIC.
ROAD CLOSING QUESTION. _ BeJJoiro .Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, tho legal argument Jin tho adjourned case in which Hector Jardin, a young man of Hoathcoto (Mr R. Twyneham) denied a charge made by tho Hoathcoto County Council (Mr V. S." Wilding), of having driven a heavy vehicle over Woinoni road at a time when tho road was closed to heavy traffic, thcro being another reasonable 'route available, was hoard. Counsel for Jardin contended that the Public Works Act, 1910, gavo a local authority power to closo a road from time to time, whereas the Motor Vehicles Act, recently p.aced on tho Statutes, gave a license-holder tho right to use any road or street in New Zealand during tho currency of tho license. Mr, Wilding held that the Motor Vehicles Act was for licensing purposes primarily, and did not affect tho Publio Works Act. His Worship said a conviction must bo recorded against Jardin. Defendant was accordingly convicted and fined 40s and costs. "WHITE" TRANSPORT HIGHLY PROFITABLE. In estimating a vehicle's profit earning capacities you must consider: (\) Length of service, (2) capacity for consistently .heavy performance, (3) low running cost, (4) low repair cost and continuous usage, (5) general dependability. Considered carefully from theso five viewpoints "White'' trucks aro demonstrably the most profitable proposition in motordom; the wellknown New Zealand Newman' Bros., write:—"Our ten 'Whites' have proved economical in running costs, mechanically excellent, thoroughly reliable and in every way to be recommended. We would bo glad to assist you to put tlio transportation side of your business on an oven more profitable basis." Newton King, Ltd., New Plymouth. 7
