FOOTBALL.

RUGBY. TO-MORROWS MATCHES. Given the glorious weather of the past fen- days, to-morrow will bo a record-break-ing day in every way at Lancaster Park. The game on the oval between Merivale snil Christchurch should bo one of the most even and attractive yet presented to patrons this season. Merivale arc at present with Linwood at the head of the senior competition, ?£"' , aI: l 10u <? h Christchurch are a little behind the leaders they are a very sjlid team, with cieu'r backs, including such men as Mci're?or, Kobillisrd, Brown, Talbot. Younc, Mullan, and Fianepau. a recruit from Southland. Merivale will field their usual team, which has become famous for its fast back work. Both packs of forwards are boaw nr.il fast-, so Rugby patrons can look forward to seeing one of the linest exhibitions vet seen on the oval. Another game of almost equal merit should take place on the south ground whero Old Boys and Varsity clash. Although at the bottom of the ladder. 'Varsitv, bv their play during the first round, should be near the top. as they are reallv a good back team, but, however, luck has not come their way so far. Their last came with Old Bovs on the oval was one of the finest exhibitions ot fast back play given this season. On the. west ground Merivale and Christchurch senior 'B" are set down to plav, and this game should provide first-class football, as both teams are well up in the competition. On the south ground there will bo two junior games, between Kaiapoi and Merivale, and Albion and Christchurch, whilo the Linwood senior team journey to Rangiora to try conelusions with the home team on the local ground.

Tho match betwoen Marists A and "Wainiairi on the No. 1 ground at Monica Park to-morrow promises, to bo one of- the best seen fo far.this season. Waimajri, have im-. proved! wondorfully since tho beginning of the season, and now arc playing high-class, •football. ' The combination among their backs is -very good,- and their, fast forwards should prove,-a match for the--Greens''.'pack.. Although Marists have suffered a number'of casualties - they can" still place a. iyjo tea.ni in the field, eo'»lic result is very.open. On the No. 2 ground Addiagton and Sydenham should provide soma excitement, as both teams indulge in: the back game and. open up the piny from ; all sorts of positions. Sydenham consider themselves unlucky" in being so narrowly beaten—2 Marists A- and Hornby, and they are right out to beat The Other senior games are: Hornby v. "Woolston, at Hornbv, and Linwocd v. Marists B, at Linwood Park. Tho latter pair, though fighting for tho wooden spoon, should provide an exciting game, as nearly all the players arc young and clever. HORNBY CLUB. Seniors v. The match between Lyttolton and Eangers at English Park to-morrow Bhonld produce a high standard of football. Tho teams lwvo the reputation of being notably ': good in combined play, and a thrilling and spectacular contest should be the outcome. 'Lyttolton are particularly well- served in de'icncc, and Wellington critics we of the opinion that the watersiders' goal-keeper, M'. Wilson, is one of the finest that has ever represented Canterbury. Other Canterbury representative players to appear in the Lyt-. telton team are A. McGilp, half-back, and O. Greenawav, forward. In the Rangers ' eleven, S. Ives, outside left, also played' for Canterbury when they so decisively defeated Wellington on Juno 3rd. There are no better exponent* "of tho game in' New Zealand than A. Bissett and E. Norman, of the Rangers' attack. Their footwork and goal-scoring ability make • their work fascinating to a degree. -Mr W. Peryman Trill be the referee. Y.M.C.A. CLUB. Fifth Grade t.
