An instructive lecture under tho auspices of tho St. Martin Resided' • Association was delivered by Mr J. H. Archer, iti the Church of . England school room, Wilson s road, on Monday evening, to a fair number of residents. Mr Archer spoko mainly of soils and the effect of liming and manuring and explained very fully why man. must.pi.it back into tie ground what he takes out. Tho speaker explained the 'benefits derived from the ash obtained,from burning all tho garden rubbish. Mr Archer also gave a demonstration of pruning sirrple. poach, goosoborry and red currant treea, and answered many questions. A hearty' vote of thanks, was passed to Mr Archer for his address.
